Bora Bodur… An Ancient Buddist Temple in central Java… built approx. 700AD. We stayed on the grounds and climbed to the top (pre-dawn with just a flashlight as our guide) to see sunrise… and visit before it got too hot. The sun rose behind two volcanoes… the one on the right you can see is active. The left one is dormant. Java has many volcanos. |

As dawn broke, we walked through the many levels of this temple, and looked at the picture carvings on the walls and the Buddha’s carved from stone, it was peaceful. Then the sun rose, the temperature started to climb, and the songs calling the local Muslims to prayer filled the air, and we headed back down to enjoy breakfast and the more distant view of the temple (at left). |
