A Trip Summary |
|
Our trip began with a stay in a small community near the town of Rosario, in the central highlands province of Naranjo. We were joining Pat and Dave who flew in from Nebraska 2 days earlier. Walking the beautiful grounds together, and watching the local wildlife come in for some offering of bananas. |

|
After a couple of days relaxing around the grounds Oscar drove us all down to Manuel Antonio for a nice lunch by the ocean and hike in the park, to see more wildlife including sloths, monkeys and deer. Beautiful vista’s as well. Iguana’s were everywhere. |

The hike down to the waterfall and back was quite an experience. |

Next it was off to stay on the west coast for a few days… Sugar Beach resort was our first stop, one of the nicest, cleanest beaches we’ve seen. We swam in the warm water, played in the surf. Getting from place to place was always an adventure in itself with the potholed roads and the lack of signage. Sugar beach was no exception!

Then we split up from Pat and Dave for a couple of days of exploring the coast towns . Tamarindo, Cocoa Beach and finally Ocotal, where we stayed on a hill and kayaked and snorkeled around the rock to pictured at the right. |

We were sad to leave the beautiful water of the coast, but excited about seeing the volcano Arenal, which we heard was still erupting, and if we were lucky enough to see it not in clouds, we could see it erupt! Well, after a very long trip around Lake Arenal, (about 2 hours on a heavily potholed road), we arrived at the Arenal Lodge… truly a beautiful place to stay. By the time we settled into our room, the initial view we had of the volcano, was shrouded in mist and clouds… we were treated by a beautiful rainbow over the lake, and we were ready to call it a night, and see what the morning would bring… and oh what a morning it was! Arenal showed itself with the sunrise! And how! |

This huge moth stayed on wall of our Lodge at Arenal every day until the last day. |
