Former Syracuse All-American Cheree Hicks has been named an assistant coach for the Portland State track & field program. She will work with the Vikings' throwers. Hicks was a six-time All-American for the Orangewomen from 1999-2000. She earned All-America status twice in the indoor shot put, outdoor shot put and discus. She also was a two-time ECAC champion in both the shot put and the discus, setting meet and stadium records in both events.
Hicks holds the SU record for the indoor and outdoor shot put as well as the discus. She was a two-time recipient of the Bud Brown Outstanding Thrower Award.
After leaving Syracuse, Hicks continued to excel at the elite level. She finished fourth in the shot put at the 2000 USA Indoor National Championship and placed fifth at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Hicks graduate from Syracuse in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in public relations. |

Hicks earned a bachelor�s degree in public relations from Syraucse in 2000. While at SU, she became the first two-time All-American in two different outdoor events in school history. She finished second in both the shot put and the discus at the NCAA Championships. She set school indoor and outdoor records for the shot put and discus.
On the BIG EAST level, Hicks set championship records in the indoor and outdoor shot put and discus. She is also the ECAC Championship record-holder in the discus. Hicks finished the 1999 season ranked fifth in the nation in the discus and seventh nationally in the shot put. In 2000, Hicks finished fifth at the U.S. Olympic Trials for the Sydney games.
As an undergraduate at California State University at Northridge, Hicks became the first freshman to achieve All-America status in the school�s history with a seventh-place finish in the discus. She set freshman records in both the discus and shot put and an overall school record in discus. A Big Sky Conference champion in discus, Hicks qualified for the NCAA championship four times (twice in shot put, twice in the discus). |
