Syd Dale
SYD DALE 1924 - 1995

At the age of 16 an apprentice engineer at Rowntrees chocolate factory sensed his passion and enthusiasm for the Big Bands, drawn by the modern sounds which excited the young generation; he knew his future lay in music.

Whenever possible he spent time listening to Big Bands and studied arrangements during his three year spell at Rowntrees designing machines to fit chocolates into boxes.

In 1945 he left to forge a career in the music business playing in local bands emanating Ted Heath and The Squadronaires where he joined as pianist/arranger after the war. Gigs aboard the famous liner The Queen Mary ensured a safe and 'cheap travel to the United States to hear the American counterparts.

After several years on the road, television work followed, he became Musical Director on shows such as 'Oh Boy, '65 Special and 'Bradens Week.

Syd spent many years arranging for hundreds of commercial successes with high profile artists. Syd then pioneered library music by composing and arranging for new library companies in the 1960s, he then incorporated Amphonic Music in 1971.

Thirty years on, Amphonic is proud to have Syd Dale as inspiration and 'founder.
