The Life of a Slayer By: Sophie Lavalier Chapter Four: The Dance Finally the training ended. It was the day before the mission, and everyone was ambitious with anxiety. And lucky for the slayers, Dilandau was holding a dance in main hall that night, so the slayers would have their minds on more pleasant thoughts, sides the mission. “ Migel? Aren’t you going to get ready for the dance?” Sophie asked with ambition searching her wardrobe. “ Yah, I guess so,” he muttered bleakly standing up and slouching over to his dresser. “ Come on Migel! Show some enthusiasm, forget about the mission and go and have a good time.” Sophie encouraged pulling a glimmering purple dress out. “Whatever” Migel mumbled starting to lazily search his dresser. She shook her head and walked over to the bathroom to change. What was with him lately? She thought to herself pulling off her muddy Armour, And slipping on the dress. A half hour later, she and Migel were walking towards the main hall. Sophie glanced at Migel who was following slowly behind her, and he seemed very reluctant to go. “ Migel” She started looking at him worriedly, “What’s wrong? Lately your just not yourself.” Migel was silent, and she watched him as he gazed meekly at the floor. “Migel? Is it about the mission?” “ Just never mind” he replied pushing past her and walking hastily towards the main hall. “ Migel!” she called after him, but he had disappeared in the crowd of people. She walked the rest of the corridor and into the main hall. She glanced around but Migel wasn’t there. He had completely vanished amongst the crowd of the young maidens who had been invited for the slayers to dance with. “ Migel….” She breathed under her breath. “What’s wrong?” “ Hey!! Sophie!!” She looked up to where the voice had come from. Dallet was standing a few meters away waving at her a broad grin on his face. The other slayers were with him. She lifted the hem of her dress and jogged over to them. “ Hi guys!” she said cheerfully. Dallet nodded, and glanced around her. “ Where’s Migel?” “ I don’t know, he was acting real strange and when I asked him what was wrong. He said never mind and ran off” she replied glancing again around the crowd. “ I wonder what’s wrong? He’s never done that before. He usually is very good-natured about things. Even when he’s really angry”, Dallet said scratching the back of his head. “ Anyway lets not let that ruin the night lets party!!!” Dallet screamed and a chorus of cheers erupted from the other slayers. Sophie took one last look around the hall. Before Dallet and the others dragged her on the dance floor. After dancing somewhere around ten fast songs, the first slow song of the night came on. She looked around the room to see if Migel was around she would really have liked to dance with him. “ Sophie!” She turned to see Dallet jogging towards her. “ You wanna dance?” he said panting lightly as he stopped beside her. She hesitated, and again looked around, but Migel just wasn’t anywhere, and Dallet being her friend, she accepted his offer. No reason to waste a dance. The song was long, at least five minutes. As she and Dallet revolved slowly, she couldn’t help but glance over his shoulder in hopes that she might spot Migel. At around three minutes in to the song she spotted him leaning against the wall on the far side of the hall. He seemed to be holding something in his hand. And it sparkled in the faint candlelight. He was looking meekly at her, as she and Dallet rotated. She was forced to turn her back to him but when she could see him again, he was looking down. The hand holding the item was clenched to his chest. There was small shine on his face, as if a tear was there. She watched as he again looked at her, then to the item in his hand, before he turned and took off down the corridor in which there dorms were. “Sophie?” Dallet said sounding concerned “ why have you stopped?” Startled she turned to Dallet. “ I’m sorry Dallet, I’ll be back,” she said sprinting away from him and towards the corridor which Migel had retreated down. She felt bad about leaving Dallet in the middle of the dance but something was definitely bothering Migel. And it had something to do with her. She reached the corridor and ran to the far end and stopped infront of their dorm. Where she very quietly opened the door and peered in. Migel was sitting on his bed, face smothered in tears. He was leaning on one of his hands, which held a torn bloody rag, while the other rested on his knee, holding the glittering object. He hadn’t noticed her and was staring down at his outstretched hand. She had never before seen him cry. Not even when he had been badly injured during a training mission, where Gattie had accidentally put a large gash in his arm. Which she had tied a piece of fabric around to stop the bleeding. Slowly she stepped in and closed the door. Still having not yet been noticed, she slowly walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. He jumped a bit obviously startled, and spun around. Seeing her he quickly hid his hand and wiped the tears from his eyes. “ Sophie” He said shakily looking back down at his knees. “ Oh Migel what’s wrong, please tell me what’s bothering you.” She said sitting down beside him. Migel didn’t answer he just continued to stare at his feet. “Migel? Why didn’t you join us? I really wanted to….” She hesitated “ I… I really wanted to… to dance with you tonight. Infact I’ve wanted to ever since I was told about the dance.” Migel looked up at her, fresh tears in his eyes. “ Really” he whispered “Of course I wanted to dance with you Migel, why wouldn’t I?” “ I… I don’t know, it just seemed that you liked Dallet I… mean a lot” Migel said a sob escaping his lips. “ Oh gosh, Migel. Is that what’s been bothering you. Migel Dallets my friend, but I don’t like him that way. Migel, I like you” Sophie said before she could stop herself. Migel looked at her tears leaking down his cheeks. “Sophie you really….” She nodded and smiled at him. “ Sophie, I’m sorry I’ve been stupid I…” “Shhhhh…” she shushed “ Migel there’s nothing wrong with the way you’ve acted, and I mean it.” Migel smiled and held out the hand in which was holding the gleaming object, and opened it. “ Sophie, I’ve wanted to give this to you for a while now, but I didn’t think you liked me, and I wanted it to be more then a gift.” She reached out her hand and he dropped a glinting gold chain into it. On it was a small golden sword, which had small diamonds lining the handle. “ Oh… Migel…” she gasped holding it up infront of her. “ It’s so beautiful!” “ You really think so?” Migel asked quietly. “ Oh Migel it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen” Migel smiled looking longingly at her. “Migel? Will you do this up for me please.” Sophie asked turning around, while holding the necklace behind her neck. Migel reached up to do it up, his hands brushing her lightly perfumed skin. Sophie shuddered at his touch, his hands were so soft. When he was done she looked down at the necklace, and smiled. Know one had ever bought her something so beautiful. She smiled at him and watched with glee as he blushed. “Well Migel, lets say we go back to the dance so I can show off my necklace, shall we?” Migel smiled and nodded. He then stood up and took her hand and they walked silently back to the main hall. Sophie leaning on his shoulder. When they got there another slow song was playing. Migel turned to her a look of deep passion in his eyes. “Would you like to dance?” “I would want more then you know” She replied rapping her arms tightly around his neck, and placing her head on his shoulder. Migel immediately pulled her close by tightly rapping his arms around her waste. Sophie felt so secure, his warm body felt so reassuring. This was right and she knew that he knew to. She really loved him. The month of training might have appeared to draw them apart. But in reality it had brought them so much closer. She nuzzled up to him. “ I love you Migel…, and don’t you ever think I don’t…” She whispered in his ear as they slowly revolved. “I wont…I promise…” he replied holding her tighter.
