Subject: Breathing You
Oi!
Well, I wrote a little ficcie. Nothing big, just a short
tidbit, (my muse commands, so I obey ^.^) No warnings or
spoilers really, though those that haven't seen all of
Tenkuu no Escaflowne might be slightly puzzled with the
setting. This fic isn't all that great but I figure some
people might like a little entertainment... be it laughing
at my unintelligent writing, or actually enjoying this is
all up to you... ^.^;; So anyway, I do hope you enjoy!

~ Breathing You ~
Hitomi smiled as she flung herself on her back. She
laid still and enjoyed the sensation of the sun beating on
her face and the tiny prickles of grass crushed under her
body. Her eyes closed when a sudden breeze began to
ruffle her clothes. She remained still when a flower
brushed against her nose, causing it to twitch. She breathed
in deeply, filling her lungs with the warm scents of the
autumn field.
Van's scent.
Her smile widened, and she deepened her breaths,
filling her lungs again and again with the mingled smells of
grasses and flowers.
She didn't want to open her eyes, she only wanted to
continue pretending that he was here, all around her, in the
grasses, the trees, the wind.
'Van...'
If she kept her eyes closed, she could convince her
mind that he was really here with her. Not just in spirit,
but in flesh and blood, breathing in the cleansing smells of
nature with her.
Hitomi's blissful face changed to a frown when she
suddenly could no longer feel a blanket of heat from the
sun, nor feel its hot rays beating against her eyelids. She
shivered and opened her eyes after a long moment and
looked up at the cloud-covered sun. The cloud quickly
drifted away, and the sun resumed reaching out its warm
arms. Hitomi smiled again as she felt tiny prickles of hot
goose-bumps crawl across her body.
She rolled over on her stomach, taking in the
surroundings she already knew well. Long green grasses,
small yellow flowers, the dense forest fencing the meadow
in, making the open area secluded and magical. It was
simple, as well as beautiful.
'Like Van…'
Hitomi gently cupped a flower in her hand, its soft
warm color glowing against her skin. She leaned her head
forward and breathed the honey scent in, her tongue almost
tasting it.
She loved this field. She felt a kind of ownership
over it, coming nearly every day, just sitting quietly and
breathing in the beautiful smell it gave out.
Van's smell.
It was here, in the quant, little field, where she
felt the closest to him. Of course he was always with her in
spirit, but it was here where she felt she could almost
reach out and touch him, his unique scent tenderly
kissing every part of her. It was here where she could
feel his kind arms wrapped around her. And it was also here,
where she felt the most alive.
"Van…" she murmured to herself. Hitomi sat up, her
hooded eyes gazing at a far away vision. She stood, and
began to twirl in happy circles, her arms extended.
She laughed, and once more began to deeply breath in
warm wafts of air that invaded her nostrils with scents that
couldn't be found anywhere else.
Except for the person closest to her heart.
She stopped, realizing how silly she'd look if someone
saw her. Moving out of her reverie, she went about
straightening her school uniform, checking for grass stains
and smoothing out wrinkles. She relaxed though, when she
remembered that the only other person who knew of this
place was Yukari. In fact, she was supposed to be meeting--
"Hitomi!"
Hitomi snapped her head in the direction of Yukari's
voice.
"Over here!" she called. She ran over to the edge of
the field, locating the crude path made by her frequent
visits. She smiled when she saw Yukari running up, her sport
bag slung over her shoulder.
"There you are! Come on, we have to get going. The
meet is starting soon."
Hitomi nodded and turned around for one last breath of
air. Her eyes focused on the spot she'd been laying at
moments ago.
There.
She smiled, looking with tender eyes at the shimmering
form.
'Van…'
He smiled softly back at her, his wings stretched out
from either side of his translucent body. The light his
phantom-like form gave off caused the dust and pollen in his
immediate surroundings to sparkle.
"I'll come back tomorrow," Hitomi whispered.
Yukari looked over her shoulder, realizing her friend
wasn't following.
"Hitomi, what're you looking at?" She shielded her
eyes and stared at the field.
"Oh, nothing," Hitomi said, smiling to herself.
She gave Van one last look before she turned and
caught up to Yukari.
"Let's go, Yukari."
Yukari nodded and they began to walk down the narrow
path, the scents of the field left behind.
'I will come back tomorrow... Van…'
