In living cells, the process by which the information for the synthesis of a protein is transferred from the� DNA strand on which it is carried to the messenger� RNA strand involved in the actual synthesis.
It occurs by the formation of base pairs when a single strand of unwound DNA serves as a template for assembling the complementary nucleotides that make up the new RNA strand.
