| Chapter Three: The Accident "Bloody hell, Slayer. What's that?" Spike yelled as he rounded the corner. "That is, the demon that's going to end the world," Buffy shouted as she started to attack the head that was chanting. Spike stood shell-shocked until, "Bloody hell!" Spike yelled when the second head started to chant as Buffy distracted the first with a neat sword lunge. He hurriedly drew his sword and weaved through the flaying limbs that was the arm with the axe while the other head was to busy concentrating on the small blonde Slayer, "Slayer, the damn thing's still chanting."" Buffy beheaded her head and got sprayed with the demon's clear blood. "I forgot to tell you, the heads will finish each other's sentences," she said conversationally as she moved to help with the last head. "Bloody hell," spike growled as he dodged the upturned sword as the ground started to tremble violently only to get attacked by the axe, he rolled to the ground, "Hurry up Slayer, kill the bloody demon." "Fine will do," neatly slicing the head off she stooped to the ground in exhaustion. "Well that was fun," Spike smirked standing. "only you would see fun in dismembering.." "Oh, come off it. You can't say that it wasn't a bloody good time." Smiling widely Buffy nodded standing, "You know for once your right, that was fun." Yawning widely she said, "That wasn't even a hard fight, so why do I feel so very drained," Suddenly she collapsed. "Slayer?" Spike said kneeling beside her, "Pet, luv, Buffy?" he spoke quietly so not to frighten her while checking her for wounds, seeing none and only smelling the demon's blood on her, he picked her up and rushed her to the hospital. ~ Arriving at the hospital Spike ran inside and yelled, "Quick, help my," he stumbled over the corrct words, "girlfriend, she's been 'urt~" Quickly nurses came running, one was pushing a gurney. Gently Spike ladid her down and she was rooled away. He startd after until and a nurse stopped and told him only family could go back. So he stared after her until she disappeared behind the swinging doors that lead to the Emergency Room, walking to the payphone Spike called Giles. "Hello, you've reached the Magic Box," Spike clenched his jaw as the message played through. "Watcher! Answer the damn phone!" "Hel..hello Spike what's the matter?" "The Slayer's been hurt. I've got her at the infirmary, they won't let me back, come and see what the problem is," long ago when Spike stopped trying to kill her, he admitted to himself that he had fallen in love with the beautiful slayer; he did not want to lose her before she realized her love for him or even if she never did he still didn't want her to die. The Watcher gasped, "Oh lord, we'll be there in a bit." hanging up with Giles, Spike rested his head against the booth gathering the strength he'd need to call Joyce. Taking an unneeded breath he dialed. "Hello?" "'Ello, Joyce," Spike said heavily. "Oh, hello Spike," when he didn't continue Joyce asked concerned, "What's wrong honey?" Ever since he came back to Sunnydale, after Drusilla left him for some French wanker, Joyce had taken care of him, trusted him wiht hers and Buffy's lives, treated hm like he was a man instead of an unsouled demon. Now here he was trying to tell her, her baby could be dieing,"Spike, is something wrong with Buffy?" Joyce asked when he still didn't answer. She knew for a fact that the blonde vampire loved her daughter and for some odd reason she was okay with that, even so ok that she tried and unsuccessfully set them up. It was a good thing that she always like him better than Angel. ~ Fifteen Minutes later~ "Ms. Summers, I've got good news and bad news," the young doctor explained, "Would you like to come with me." "No, we're all family here, tell us, please," Joyce replied. "The good news is all the blood on your daughter wasn't hers, and there are no other visible wounds, but he bad news is she's in the coma and if she doesn't come out of it, the chances of her waking up are slim, there is also the fact that all her non-vitals and vitals are not working perfectly, meaning she's dieing slowly but she's not in any pain." "Dieing," was all Spike could speak before his wovals quit. Giles looked up when the doctor said the blood wasn't hers. Speaking quickly and quietly to Faith, he sent her running to the Magic Box to pick up the couple of books. Joyce turned and saw a devastated looking Spike. "How lo...long until she goes?" asked Giles. "Couple of weeks, a month at most. I'm going to check and see how Buffy's doing and then you can visit her." The entire group of Scoobies were silent, battling to control their thoughts. Willow looked up from Oz's shoulder with a thought, "Giles, Ms. Summers, Spike, I have an idea," WIllow quietly commented. THe three mentioned turned to look at the red headed witch, "You may not like it Giles but it's a way." It dawned on Spike what she was implying, "I'm not doing it. I love her warmth, kindness, and strength; I'm not going to turn her into a monster. She doesn't deserve that," he said in a low voice. "Spike, what are you talking about?" asked Joyce. "Red wants me to turn her," he stated simply. Everyone but Spike, Willow and Joyce looked shocked. "Are you crazy Willow? Turn Buff into the evil undead?" asked Xander outraged. Wide eyed with wonderment, "of course not, we would give her, her soul. How can you say that?" Willow squeked. "I'm still not doing it. She doesn't deserve tht kind of unlife. Not truly enjoying anything." "We have a couple of weeks maybe I'll be able to alter the spell so its permanent." At that moment Faith walked into the waiting room carrying two large books. "Here ya go G-man. I got your books," she said dropping the books into his arms. "What's with the research? How come she gets to call you G-man and I don't?" Xander whined asked. "Because I like her. I'm looking up more information about the demon she had to kill." "Oh." "You may visit her," the doctor said as he came back to the front. "Thank-you," responded Joyce. ~~ "So the Watcher did research while we all looked in on Buffy, he found out tht the demon blod was sucking the life out of her to create another one," Spike paused and looked at the silent Slayer, "Pet? Are you ok?" "Mmm, five more minutes mom," she sleepily groaned snuggling deeper into his shoulder. Chuckling Spike put his arm around her waist. Angel was in awe; the Slayer fell asleep while working, seemingly comfortable on the blonde vampire's shoulder. "Spike, how long did it take to change the spell?" Angel asked. "It took two weeks; but by that time Buffy had gotten steadily worst. Her vitals were shutting down." ~~ "Giles, its ready," Willow announced coming throught the jingling door of the Magic Box. "Already? Good work, Willow," he hesitated a second then continued, "Joyce called me today and said her vitals were shutting down," Willow's smile faded, "Oh no! I haven't got Xander and Oz to convince Spike to turn her yet." "You should inform him of the new knowledge." "Got'cha," Willow turned to go find Xander, Oz and Spike. ~ "Spike if you don't do this man, she'll die and she'd be gone...Forever," Oz clarified. "You don't get it mate, she'll lose her life either way. She'll lose her sun, warmth, everything that she loves and that makes her, her," Spike adamantly refused siting in a chair in his town house. "I don't know why I'm doing this but I agree with Oz, we'll lose her if you don't help. I thought you loved her?" Xanderthrew in. "Of course I love 'er you ninny, that's why I don't want to take that away. I'd rather spend the day with Poofeni than turn her." Suddenly Xander was struck with a thought, Angel, "Hey Oz, fang face won't do it maybe Deadboy will," he said conspiringly. Spike's headshot up, he growled, "Hairboy will not be coming anywhere near the Slayer. She's mine." "SOrry, man don't eat me. I don't Deadboy anymore than I live you." Suddenly Willow burst in through the door, "Guys I've got good news and bad news," heads shout toward the red headed witch that was panting slightly. "Well get on wit' it, Red." "The bad news is Buffy's gotten worse, her vitals are shutting down," Willow paused to caught her breath. "Bloody hell," came an almost inaudible growl. "The good news is that the spell is complete," Willow looked around the sparsely decorated living room, SPike may have moved into a townhouse but it did not mean he owned anything or decorated at all, it still looked like it was unlived in. "Wills, we haven't gotten-" Xander started. "Don't worry whelp, I'm doing it," Spike said standing and heading towards the stairs to sleep until sundown. Smiling Willow squeaked, "Ok when do you want to do it?" "Tonight," the room was silent. "O...ok then," with that said Willow let to gather ingredients, Oz and Xander looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders and sat on the couch and turned on the television that they had gotten Spike when he had first moved in. ~ "Spike wanted everyone here, because she'll need to see faces that she knows and loves to help her get over her fear," WIllow explained to the gang as they stood silently outside Buffy's hospital door. Joyce inside with Spike asked tentatively,"Spike, honey are you ok?" Fine. No not fine, Joyce she was just starting to trust me and like me as a friend, we were friends, not just people who were thrown to work together. She's going to hate me for what I'm going to do. I dont't know if I can handle that." "After you do what you do, we'll talk with her. You can wait in the hall." Spike shook his head, "She'll most likely wake with the sun setting tomorrow, she'll be hungry make sure she has blood ok. I'll have to go home befor dawn, this hospital isn't good for vamps, with all the windows. Besides if she wants to talk she can find me." "Ok, I'll wait outside until you come and get me," Joyce commented quietly, standing. "Ok," Joyce walked out of the room; the clicking of the door signaled to Spike that Joyce was gone. "Joyce, how's he doing?" asked a concerned Giles, cleaning his glasses. "He's worried that she'll hate him. He really does love her," answered Joyce just as concerned. "I figured as much. I mean he follows her around lke a puppy. At least since I got here," Faith spoke up trying to add a little more information into the situation by trying to wade through her guilt at not being there to fight by her side. "Yeah but you missed the year before, he tried to kill us all a lot of time. His whacked out girlfriend, Drusilla killed the Slayer tht you took over for," Xander pointed out feeling the need to show Spike's bad side off. "Xander don't talk about Drusilla like taht besides you've been working together for five years. You should have forgotten that by now." Willow reprimanded. "I know but when he came back senior year to get taht spell to get Drusilla to love him again he threatened our necks," at her look he polished, "Well, knocking me out and holding a bottle to your neck was the exact thing he did but all in all our lives were at stake," Willow shook her head and cuddled closer to Oz. ~ "I'm sorry Luv, everyone here loves you too much to lose you, and I love you. That's why I'm doing this, I hope you forgive me." ~~~ "I wouldn't have done it," Angel pointed out. "I know you wouldn't have. But I had to, I couldn't lose her." "How long has she been a vampire?" asked Angel quietly so not to wak the blonde slayer. "She's been a vampire for a week today. She's still getting use to the double strength and twice as fast healing ability," Spike fondly replied looking down at the sleeping slayer. Angel saw the look, "You really do love her don't you." "I sure do." "Does she know?" "Yeah, but not in the sense that I've actually told her. But it's been said by the other Scoobies. We're just friends. I don't want her to do something that she's not ready for. She's been hurt to bad, after you left she went with this wanker named Riley Finn for a while until she learned that he was allowing himself to be sucked on by vampires. They were broken for a while until they worked the problems out and got back together and then he left for some super secret under cover mission for the army and he left her standing alone in the wood crying. He gave her an ultimatum him or her calling. She chose her calling, hence his leaving her. The bloody fool, she doesn't know how to trust those she loves anymore, they all leave her high and dry." "Sun will be rising soon, finish your story." Angel said in clipped even tones as Spike's words hit a sore spot because that is exactly what he did. "Fine, besides I want to get the Slayer home before Joyce worries." |
