Final Fantasy VIII Limit Breaks

Characters:

On this page I will be describing the basics of limit breaks. On the right is a list of all the characters with each having their own limits.

When a characters HP has been reduced to one fourth of his/her normal amount, the HP numbers will turn yellow indicating a "critical" condition. This indicates that you are in  need of recovery! But more importantly, it indicates that the character in question is ready to perform a
Limit Break. However, things are a bit different now. In Final Fantasy VII, you gained your limit by waiting for your gauge to fill up from the number of times you were attacked by an enemy. This new way is great, because  you can use it to your advantage. By keepking the HP in yellow, you can use Limit Breaks as often as you'd like!

Now just because your character's HP is in yellow doesn't mean that the Limit Break will always be available to you.  Instead, there's just a chance that they'll appear. The odds are directly linked to the amount of HP the character has remaining. If you have 50 HP left, then the Limit Break will appear almost every time, whereas if you have 500 HP, it will only appear a little bit of the time. So how do you beat the system? It's simple! When the ATB gauge fills up, tap the O button if that character's Limit Break doesn't appear. In effect, this skips the character and gives him/her a second chance. However, don't press too quickly, or you might miss the chance to use the Limit Break and skip right over it! Each character's Limit Breaks are different. Refer to the links on the right column to view every character's Limit Breaks.
