Triple Triad is Final Fantasy VIII's challenging card game. It's a mini-game unlike you've ever seen before. You can collect special cards throughout the game based on minor enemies, bosses, GF's and major characters from Final Fantasy VIII. You can chalenge almost anyone that you encounter. What are the benefits you say!? Well, if you learn Quezacotl's Card Mod ability, you can refine the cards into valuable and rare items that you may need later to remodel weapons or learn new abilities. In the Triple Triad game, the biggest challenge is the always-changing set of rules. Sometimes playing your strongest hand isn't always wise. Some of the basic rules are the Same, Open, Sudden Death, and Elemental. With these, all you need to win is a nice, strong hand. You can overpower your opponent by playing cards he/she cannot beat. |

However, with rules more advanced such as Plus, Same Wall, and Random, it is better to try to win over a strategy rather that brute force. Corners will offer you the best defense, whereas the middle will offer you the worst defense. However, the middle may sometimes be the most beneficial spot to play your cards at the beginning of a match to try and limit your opponents options. This will definitely work well against tougher opponents. One more thing - try to prevent spreading the Random rule, because it really sucks! Even the Open rule stinks because although you can see your opponents cards, they can also see yours, trying to plan a sneaky and sometimes damaging trap for you. Finally, if your trying to make an effort at obtaining all 110 cards, you'll need to participate in the different card-related side quests. The Queen of Cards, CC Group, and the Alien Encounter. |
