Bear Cabrera-Collins
My name is Bear Collins and until I was three, I lived in the posh suburb of Mont Albert. I was an indoor dog weighing 11kg. I belonged to a lady who let me sleep in her bed and who tickled my tummy and let me eat Smarties - both of which I really liked. There was a cat there too which is probably why I am jealous of cats! Then a baby came along and I had to sleep at the end of the bed. So, in my early days, there was a toddler  around which is probably why I like children and get upset if I hear them crying or screaming. My first owners had to go overseas to work so I was adopted by Grandpa and Grandma and Judi and Renato who are my new mum and dad.
More about me!
As soon as I arived at my new home in West Brunswick, I ran around sniffing and investigating the whole place and my new owners just loved me and I was rapt. They made me an insulated house with curtains under the house - my own bachelor pad!
I'm a pretty clever dog - scoring as highly intelligent on the Canine I.Q. test. I know when my owners are going out and sit on their clothes to try and stop them leaving.
I have a lot of responsibilities. First I looked after Grandma. After jumping on her bed in the morning, I would take her for a walk and then sit with her all day. I knew when she was having a bad day and would love and protect her. The first time I visited her in the nursing home, I sniffed my way right to her feet without anyone showing me the way. She doesn't remember me but I'll never forget her.
Now I mind Grandpa all day. When no-one's home, it's my responsibility to mind the house. I love to lounge around on my blanky. I can spend quite a bit of time getting it just right. But I also love being active. I play soccer everyday with Renato. Once I played so hard I sprained my leg and I had to go on walks in a jeep. I've been in two dog fights and have been bitten by a Huskie and a German Shepherd. You'd think they would pick on someone their own size.
I'm a creature of habit and follow the daily routine. If the family don't stick to it - I let them know. My owners are continually trying to get me to lose weight but I just can't get under 10kg. I think it's my Smartie upbringing and all the tit bits I get. I've even been given nicknames like "wombat" and "barrell". My owners are sure I'm a Jack Russell crossed with a Corgi. Life's pretty good. I get to sleep inside now. I've got my own couch and a hide out under Grandpa's bed. I use the bachelor pad for hiding my bones or sleeping if it's too hot inside.
Don't tell anyone I told you this - I've got them all right under my paw!
