| WHAT IS EXPLORER SCOUTING? Explorer Scouts are young people aged between 14 and 17, (males and females are equally welcomed) who want to get something more out of life. Explorer Scouting has just started and has only been running for about the last cuople of months. Explorer Scouts has replaced existing Venture Scout Units completely, as part of the new changes and look to Scouting. We have, although we have not been around long, done many activities including Indoor climbing at Aycliffe, Rock Climbing for our Rock Climbing Award, Archery at Widdowfield Street and many games etc on the Thursday nights at the Scout Centre. Explorers meet as a Unit with adult Leaders, where they participate in team games, organise camps, trips and activities and take part in challenging and new things. We meet weekly at 14th Darlington scout centre in Haughton Village in the North East of Darlington at 7:45pm. Explorer Scouting can involve you in just about anything, from climbing high mountain peaks in The Yorkshire Dales, to travelling on abroad trips around the world with other Explorers from around the whole country! As well as all these activities Explorer Scouts work towards three awards, the "Diamond Chief Scouts Awards", the "Platinum Chief Scouts Awards" and, the "Queen's Scout Award". Those who achieve this high standard each year are invited to take part in the annual Easter Sunday parade at Windsor Castle. Explorer Scouts also have the oppurtunity to work on the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme. If you fit into our age range, and your looking for something more out of life remember: TRY EXPLORERS!!! |
