| Butterfly Girl (Scratch The Surface) |
| Locked away Underneath layers of war paint The vibrant colors and romantic beauty Beneath the exterior of a woman Lies her The girl...searches Forever hitting the sides of her cage The frantic gliding butterfly of low self esteem No one has met her yet No one has bothered to scratch away at her surface long enough Either because they can't figure out how to unlock her Or because she refuses to show she needs someone They all give up. It takes a while to find her Many lock and key combinations So the girl is forever condemned to imprisonment Never knowing a true life Never allowing herself to be free And to trust because, she's alien to loyalty being given This girl, this butterfly Forever cocooned inside her glass cage of loneliness Her wings clipped through destruction I know the butterfly girl is screaming for her free spirit to be seen Her cage is now collecting dust Stopping her from seeing the beauty of life and people Casting a shadow on her optimism and her day-dreams of romantic bliss Longing for reassurance that she is not alone Hoping that they see beyond the sheild she covers herself with That they want her for her I know, until they scratch beyond the surface, she will never fly free Because the little butterfly girl, inside the silent glass cage Is me.
