Guidelines for Experts
Experts You Can
Trust:
The
experts sponsored here are professionals who take the time to fully research
your problems and provide answers which will be as complete as possible. You
may be comfortable in the knowledge that the answers they provide you are the
best, most current available. They will never belittle you for failure to
understand an issue rather they will provide every assistance possible to help
you get your site up and running as quickly as possible. They will not,
however, knowingly assist you in building an illegal site (see
restrictions). Feel free to contact
them through the expert center or go to the Experts page and click on the
following expert links to contact them here:
Note that all experts listed here are by invitation only. Experts who fail to live up to the charter
above will be removed. And, of course, since we are all “human” we do make
mistakes and may give the wrong advice.
If you think something we told you is not correct, ask us to
verify. We will then review our answer
and, if necessary, check with other experts to give you the proper response.

Identifying Good
“Experts”:
You can
identify a qualified Expert who is a member of the Experts Group by the logo on
their site: “Member of Experts
Group”. This logo will be a link to
this page from which you can verify their status. If they are not listed here, they are not a member.

Identifying Bad
“Experts”:
As any one can probably tell you who has
had occasion to ask a number of questions, sooner or later, you will have a
question responded to by someone who is not truly interested in your welfare
but rather looking for the glory of being called “expert” or maybe just to be a
“smart ass”. You can identify these
kind of people by such things as “please be sure and rate me” or “I am an
expert in everything” or short quick answers which actually provide no guidance
at all or insult you. (Now, of course,
it is not always possible to provide a lot of details or the responder may not
be sure how much you know. So, if the
response does not contain enough detail be sure to respond back and ask for
more information.)
One particular bad thing we see some times,
is a responder who attempts to insult the person asking the question. I have seen responses such as “Nerd!”. These kind of people should be reported to
Yahoo through the abuse feedback program.
Some times people responding to answers do
not really know the answer. Some times
they are genuinely trying to help and may indicate that they are not really
sure but others come across like they are truly “expert” in the area but in
fact give you bad answers. If one of
the “good” experts sees this they will generally provide an additional answer
to your question and try to clear up the problem. It is difficult for you to know when someone gives you a bad
answer so be cautious. A “good” expert
will never give you guidance which contradicts GeoCities guidelines or is
illegal. They will generally provide
references to anything which is controversial.
