In the beginning...

Dr. Bennett Bartlett stepped into his laboratory. Looking around he saw all the lab rats. They were strong, very strong; but he wanted more; more to experiment on. He had created an enhanced rat. They had better senses, were stronger and smarter, and some even had wings or other add-ons. But Dr. Bartlett wanted to test his skills on humans and now he was going to get his chance. That day in the meeting with the U.S. governments representative, he had been granted permission to begin experimentation on humans. He had been shown plans for a facility that he would run. He had been told what he was to do. And if he succeeded...when he succeeded, he would be the richest man alive. Of course, no one could no it was him who created the perfect soldier. If the wrong people found out, Dr. Bartletts life could be at risk. But that didnt matter; he was making his dream come true. As Dr. Bartlett gazed at his creations, he wondered just briefly if this was the right thing to do. He convinced himself it was. He wouldnt make any mistakes and then none of the experiments would be injured. But not being told how they would acquire the human experiments for his tests did concern him...but only a little.

The Dr. had a bright future ahead of him and he wasnt about to ruin it because of his minor concerns about the life of others.

But now, he must stop enjoying the moment of triumph and get to work. It was time to begin recruiting scientists...and guards to recruit experiments.

Dying Garden...

Dr. Bartletts first lab failed. The local police nearly found out about what he did. But before they could, he was able to burn the building and everything inside it. There was no way anyone could ever link him to what had happened or even know for sure what really went on inside that facility.

Dr. Bartlett had stayed and watched the flames consume his creation for a few moments, until the local authorities came. He couldnt risk being caught any where near that building.

He thought about all of this as he drove to a new city in his Mercedes. Making a deal with the military to continue work on his experiments, but in a different place, made him feel confident that he was going to succeed.

Pulling up to the very well guarded facility, he couldnt help but smile.

This is going to work, he thought to himself as he was allowed past the gate. I just know it.
