Don't let this happen to you!!
On Febuary 26th 2002 she went into labor around 9:30 or 10am, she got to the hospital about 11am that morning she was admitted and of course they made her lay there without an epideral but they did give her shot of Nubain and Phenergan for the pain. Finally at 4cm dilated which was at 12:45pm they gave her epideral it finally took affect and it put her to sleep they had to keep waking her up to push. My Godson was born at 4pm 2-26-02 he weight 7lbs and 1oz both mother and son was fine. On 2-28-02 the day of discharge is when it all started, the pediatrician came into the room and my cousin ask if they were going to go home and he said " you are but the baby is not " she aked why is there somthing wrong with him he said " they had found amphetamines in his system" My cousin said she did not understand how that could have happened she had not done any drugs since she found out she was pregnant and I knew this was true I could tell that being an expecting mother had changed her whole outlook on life and that she was not the same person that she was before. She was raised in a house with parents that were potheads and she said she would never let her baby grow up in the stuff that she had to. She tried to tell the Dr but he kept insisting that she had done drugs and he told her to go home and DHR would come take custody of the baby after arguing with the Dr for 3hrs, she asked if she could see him before she left and he said no. That day she had to leave the hospital without her baby.
On Friday March 1st the lady from DHR called her and said they had a hearing set for Monday March 4th at 10am. Monday we got to the courthouse and met up with DHR they sat down and asked her to name all the medications she had taken in the past 2 weeks they were pepcid ac, Tylenol pm which the Ob Gyn told her she could take for sleep and the loratabs they gave her at discharge for pain . They ordered her to take a drug test right then and there which she did and past it. They went in front of the judge and she said that the baby is to be home with his mother by no later than wednseday the 6th of march and she ordered her into random drug test.
On march 6th she calls DHR to see what time the baby was going to be home , the lady said he was not coming home because they had a report called in that morning of her using drugs during the whole pregnancy and until they looked at her Ob records he was staying in foster care they asked her to sign a release so they could get her records so that day we went to the hospital and signed a realease and we also got a copy of them for us to keep, that is where we discovered that the hospital had another patients name on the drug screen paper that caused the baby to be taken. We also found that they gave her oxcotin in her epideral which explained why she was past out during delivery we made phone calls to Doctors and pharmacist which told us that several foods that we eat can be broken down by our systems into amphetamines such as subway sandwhiches, peanutbutter, Poppy seeds and any food that boost your energy can break down to an amphetamine wiith this information we went to talk to the babys lawyer she also had been checking into the food factor and she tried tell DHR this but they kept insisting that it was not possible for the hospital to mix up records and the food part was just impossible But since her records was in such a mess they let the baby come home but is still in custody of the state and she still has to take random drug testing and family optons which is sorta like counslers had to come out to her house for 4 weeks and have atleast 40hrs in by the last visit which was 3-27-02 and on that last visit DHR came out and said family options was through but there would be another hearing to determine if the state was going to release custody back to my cousin we still do not know when that day is.
she has been taking the drug test and has past every single one of them. We are getting a lawyer to see if she has a lawsuit against the hospital,DHR and the pediatrician. And by the way it was her aunt that called DHR on 3-6-02 the day the baby was going to come home and the reason for her doing so was to control my cousins life like she always did in the past because my cousin did not want anything to do with her because of her controlling ways.
