Flying Without Fear
Climb three steps Hand barely grazing over the smooth metal railing Feel the rough surface against bare feet Stop Inhale Chin up Eyes to the sky for a split second Take in the brilliant blue Warmth of the sun penetrating every inch of skin Walk One foot in front of the other Four steps Steadily Eyes straight forward Not blinking Not fearing Deep breath Arms thrown wide Flying Eyes closed Rush of wind Shift of equilibrium in the inner ear Eyes open Blue substituting blue Head over heels Over head over heels No fear Exhilaration No Not exhilaration Exultation This is what it means to fly Not only fly But fall Without fear Plunge Without fear Shatter Ice cold Hit the ground Push off Come up Breathe Repeat
This was written after my first afternoon diving after being away from the sport for over a year. This is what it felt like. This is what it means to me.
