The Little Boy
A little boy They said he'd never walk again And his mom broke down and cried Thinking of all that could have been Playing outside It was a lazy summer day Then a car came out of nowhere And took it all away She called his dad He was away far out of town And when he got back home This is what he found A little boy Who would never walk again Sitting in a wheelchair And he wasn't even ten A little boy Who used to play under the sun His childhood was over Before it had begun A little boy Who used to live without a care Had learned it way too early That life simply isn't fair When she had called He had thought it was a lie And for the first time in his life The boy saw his dad cry He told his dad Everything would be okay He said he'd made up his mind He would walk again someday Got no reply His dad only hung his head They talked to all the doctors 'Never' was what they said Went back to school And all his classmates stared And the boy knew it would be hard But he was well-prepared He laughed it off And became known as the one Who always had a smile And was always having fun He learned to live This was just a small setback It would take a little while But he'd soon get back on track Was late at night He was inside his room alone He exercised his legs Physical therapy on his own He didn't tell He wanted it to be a big surprise If he started to give up He just looking into his mother's eyes She once had thought That she'd found the perfect plan She had always dreamed of When her little boy would be a man Her hopes cut short By a random freak accident But for some strange reason Her little boy seemed content Through junior high He went to class and studied hard He was nice to everyone Treated them with respect and with regard His freshman year He watched the sports he couldn't play But as he watched the teams win He promised himself someday He might not run And he would never learn to fly But he wasn't going to sit back And let life pass him by Surrounded by friends He was grateful to be alive Things could have been so different He might not have survived It was just a chair A minor pause but not the conclusion He would overcome it 'Never' was just an illusion He kept trying And slowly taught himself to stand He fell a million times But kept perseverance close at hand Nobody knew About that vow he took at ten And so many people told him He would never walk again Last day of high school A little boy coming of age When they called his name he stood up And then he walked across the stage Everyone silent Watched him stumble, watched him fall But he slowly got back up And he raised his head up tall The principal amazed He humbly shook his hand Gave him his diploma Escorted him back up the stands His mother cried And his father smiled proud And the roaring in his ears Was the applause of the whole crowd A little boy Who doctors said won't walk again Showed everyone around him That power comes from within.
You will spend the majority of your life listening to people tell you what you cannot do. Stop listening. "Only those who see the invisible can ever do the impossible." If you believe in yourself, it will not matter that no one else believes in you. You know your limits -- and they are not the limits set by others. You decide what you can and cannot do, when to keep going and when to quit, what is possible and what is impossible. You know of what you are capable. And you will show them.
