How did Xbox really do at E3?
E3 is finally over, the awards have been given and
the opinions have been formed and almost everybody seems to agree: The
Xbox had to make a bigger impression.
They had to make a huge impression at the E3 to
convince more people to buy the Xbox, cause they don’t have the fans
from an earlier console so they start at zero. Why didn’t they make
the impression that was needed to convince the people?
Well it starts with the size of their stand. That was way to small (only
half the size of Nintendo’s and Sony’s). To make a big impression
you have to come with a lot of games and lots of news. To be better then
Nintendo and Sony is already doomed to fail with half the size of the
stand. It could be achieved when you have great presentations and show
some great games. You are
not allowed to make one little mistake. But there were some mistakes.
Take Halo for example, it had some problems with the frame rate and why
was this?! Because of bad programming of the memory of the Xbox. You are
not allowed to make such big mistakes when you want to impress the
people.
Secondly they don’t have many games that already
have a really good name of previous versions. Only DOA3 and Unreal
already have a good name. But Halo and Munch also have previous versions
I hear you thinking. True but the earlier version of Munch wasn’t
really good and didn’t really sell like hell and Halo is a PC game
which isn’t even out. The GameCube had Super smash bros. Melee,
Waverace, Dinosaur Planet and Eternal Darkness (this one didn’t have
an other version but the expectations for the N64 versions where really
high so it already had a good name). The PS2 had MGS2, silent hill 2,
GT3 and Final fantasy X. These are all games that have already caused a
hype. Xbox doesn’t have those games. Don’t get me wrong, I am not
saying that the games of the Xbox are bad cause the games are great. I
am only saying that the name of the games isn’t really as attracting
as the ones of the Xbox and the PS2.
So the Xbox didn’t make the impression they were suppose to make, but
are they lost now? No I don’t think so, Microsoft just has to present
themselves good and if they do that, it’s just a matter of time until
the Xbox will be accepted. And they still have a great console with a
great line-up of games. So my choice is as always, Xbox first.
