With Halo this is one of the most promising launch titles. Especially
the graphics are the most beautiful I've ever seen and that on a
constant 60fps framerate. And you haven't heard the best part: It's
exclusive!! XboxIGN recently went to tecmo and could actually play the game. Not
all of it of course but just a few levels
and a few characters, but what they saw was really amazing. Just look at
this picture of the beach. It could be a picture of my vacation to Spain
this year.
But enough about the graphics cause what you all wanted to hear is
how it plays. Well they could play only four levels: beach, forest, Japanese
castle and cave. They all had their own special thing. We all know that
in DoA2 the environments were already interactive, you could fall
through windows and from edges and you could be electrified if smashed
upon some walls. This has only improved in this version. For example in
the Forest level you can hide behind a tree or in the cave level you
will be able to walk to other areas. So the levels will be even bigger
then on the dreamcast. The cave was also the most impressive of all
areas cause of all the ice on the ground and the wall which reflects
almost everything.
You will be able to play with about the same characters as in the
second version and a few extra. For example you have Brad Wong: a white
haired Chinese man, Christie: a 24 yr old British assassin and
Hitomi: a very young girl who still goes to high school. Of course the
old characters have some new moves and you will be able to unlock some
new costumes.
The button configuration is a bit surprising. You move the characters
with the D-pad and you use the X, Y and the white button to block, punch
and kick. pretty weird cause all the buttons are above each other, but
it works pretty good according to IGN.
So certainly a great game which could save the Xbox a little bit in
Japan. Probably not enough but it's a great start and a must buy for the
Xbox. Expect some more movies and screenshots soon.
