Oasis de Capistrano: Background
Nerja, founded by the Moors in the 10th century, was once a sleepy fishing village but now has a population of over 10,000.  Located on the coast just 50 kilometres from Malaga, it is easily accessed via the new N340 motorway in approximately 45 minutes.
At the heart of the town is the spectacular Balcon de Europa, once a Moorish castle, it is now a superb promenade along a cliff top with panoramic views.  Next to the Balcon is the magnificent 17th century Church of El Salvador, in a style which is a charming mixture of baroque and Moorish.

Nerja also boasts several beaches, with many restaurants serving food ranging from traditional Spanish paella to several international offerings.  Although not spoilt, Nerja has a vibrant nightlight not to be missed.
