| Nerja, founded by the Moors in the 10th century, was once a sleepy fishing village but now has a population of over 10,000. Located on the coast just 50 kilometres from Malaga, it is easily accessed via the new N340 motorway in approximately 45 minutes. | |||||||||||||||

| At the heart of the town is the spectacular Balcon de Europa, once a Moorish castle, it is now a superb promenade along a cliff top with panoramic views. Next to the Balcon is the magnificent 17th century Church of El Salvador, in a style which is a charming mixture of baroque and Moorish. Nerja also boasts several beaches, with many restaurants serving food ranging from traditional Spanish paella to several international offerings. Although not spoilt, Nerja has a vibrant nightlight not to be missed. |
