Chapter 11: Taylor Hanson

As I drove up Zhaina's driveway, I had this really weird feeling. It was as though I had to get into the house as soon as possible. I was all panicky and almost ran into her garage, but luckily, I looked up right in time to see that I was heading straight for the closed garage door and was able to stop. Good thing too, because the jeep I was driving just happened to be a few weeks old. Anyway, I turned the engine off and ran up to her side door. It was unlocked so I just let myself in.

The Parker's house was set up exactly as I have always remembered it being. I swear it hasn't changed since we were like 5 or something. Mrs. Parker is really artsy so their house is decorated amazingly. It's like an art gallery in there, but I had no time to look around for any new pieces that may have been added since I had last been there. I looked in the fridge to grab a pop, I was suddenly very thirsty. Damn, that fridge smelled like a big fucking asshole. Unfortunately, neither of Zhay's parents liked to do domesticated things like grocery shopping or cleaning out the fridge. I had no luck at finding a pop, so I went back to what I came there for, to find Zac and bitch him out.

It was really quiet downstairs, so I assumed they were upstairs in Zhay's room. As I slowly walked up the stairs I started to smell a faint aroma of weed in the air and knew I was headed in the right direction. I walked down the hall to her room and the aroma got stronger with each step. Her bedroom door was cracked open and I was about to burst in when I heard a part of their conversation that interested me to a great extent.

"You? 1/3 of the biggest teenybopper group in history hasn't gotten any serious play?" Zhay was saying to Zac. I was laughing internally and fighting so hard not to laugh out loud.

"Hey now, let's keep that on the down-low, aiight?" God Zac was such a loser sometimes. Ha, an inexperienced loser too. "That is like my biggest secret, Zhay, so please don't tell anyone, I'm being so serious." I was thinking at that time how much Zac would hate to know that I was right outside listening to this conversation.

"Chill out, dude. I'm not telling anything. Now can you please shut the fuck up so we can go back to what was started?" Zhay said in a sexy voice that I have never heard come out of her mouth ever.

What was started? What the hell does that mean? I had to look and see what was up before just bursting in. I snuck as quietly as possible to her door to push it open just a bit more. Her house was creaky as fuck, and I thought for sure they would notice, but apparently neither one seemed to care. I looked in the door to see Zhaina and Zac both topless, making out on her bed. I was about to start screaming my ass off at Zac, to start to kick his fucking ass. I mean, what the fuck was he doing? He thinks I'm bad, but I'm not the one trying to play both of my best friends. Right about then something clicked inside of me. I had to get downstairs quickly and without either of them noticing, but I did not think that would be a problem.

I got into my jeep and sped off towards home. I made it home in record time. I had to be quick or my plan might not work.

My plan, it was devious, but it would work, I was sure of it. The only hard part would be getting Laidie awake without pissing her off. I walked into my room and much to my surprise Laidie was still awake.

"You still up?" I asked even though the answer was obvious.

"Yeah, the phone woke me up a few minutes ago." Her answer seemed like a good one, but I had trouble believing her. She looked like she had been awake the whole time.

"Oh, did you answer it?" I wanted to get on with my plan, but small talk seemed like a good thing.

"No, I tried but the answering machine had already gotten to it. Did you find Zac?"

"Yeah ... he's at Zhay's. He said that he really wants to talk to you." I tried to sound all nonchalant.

"What could he possibly have left to say to me? He hates me!"

"No, Laidie, he does not. Now trust me I have to get you over there as soon as possible. He wants to show you something." I was trying to rush her along.

"Okay fine. I'll get dressed and meet you downstairs then?" I took the hint and left the room. As long as Laidie didn't take forever my plan should work fine.

She came down about 5 minutes later, looking as good as ever. I rushed her out into the car and drove as fast as I could to Zhaina's, I was on a mission.

"Taylor! Slow down! You are going to kill me ... what's the rush? You like to be bitched at by Zac? I certainly don't. I really don't wanna go!" She was going no matter what she wanted, I was going to make sure of that.

We got to the Parker's house and I was in more of a rush to get in there than last time. I was glad that the music was on when I got in the house, that way I wouldn't have to tape Laidie's mouth shut.

We began to walk up the stairs when Laidie yelled for Zac and Zhay. I quickly grabbed her mouth in fear of Zac and Zhaina hearing her and stopping whatever they were doing.

"Shh!" I instructed. She was kind of confused, but there was no way I was letting my plan fail. This was too perfect.

We stood outside Zhay's room for a few seconds. Laidie was scared to go in, in fear of another yelling by Zac. Then, slowly, I opened the door. I was grinning from ear to ear. I was about to have the ultimate revenge on Zac. Then I for sure could have Laidie all to myself.

"Uhm..." Laidie began. I assumed she had just caught Zhaina and Zac in the act, so I peeked my head in a little bit to get a better look at the scream fest that was to come.

But no, Zac and Zhay were sitting there reading a magazine! How could this be? Did I not drive fast enough? Did they hear Laidie coming up the stairs? I was beyond pissed at this point. I wanted to grab Laidie's arm and drag her out of there as fast as I could. I reached for her arm, but she just moved away.

"Why did you want me to come here? So you can yell at me some more? Make me feel bad? C'mon, what is it, Zac? I'd really like to know."

I reached for her arm again. I was definitely fucked.

Zac looked over at me. "I didn't ask to see you. Tay, what the fuck are you trying to do here?"

"I... um..." I had nothing to say. I was completely and utterly fucked.

"I don't fucking want to hear it, all right? Laidie, I don't ever want to talk to you again. How much more obvious do I have to make that?"

"You're fucking high, aren't you?!" I said, in a desperate attempt to take the attention off me and my fuck up and turn it on to Zac somehow.

"Yeah, and what's your goddamn point?"

"Whatever. Have your little fun playing your little games. I fucking know, Zac. I saw you two." I had to let Zac know that I knew. I just wish Laidie would have seen what I saw.

"Just get the hell out. Take that whore and get the hell out."

I looked at Laidie. She had tears in her eyes and was obviously hurt. Zhaina was laying down on her bed, quite possibly sleeping. Before I could say another word, Laidie ran out of the room.

"Quit trying to be some macho player, Zac. Make up your damn mind." I said, halfway under my breath and halfway out loud. I didn't wait for a response. I had to catch up to Laidie.

I ran down the stairs, almost tripping over myself numerous times, and out of the door which was conveniently left open. I saw her running about 50 feet away.

"Laidie!" I screamed for her, but she didn't even stop or slow down for me. "Laidie! Stop!" I yelled again.

I ran as fast as I could to catch up with her, yelling all the way down the street. The people outside must have thought I was crazy. And I admit, I felt like a madman running down the street screaming for her. Finally, she stopped and turned around to wait for me to catch up.

"What the fuck was that for?" She demanded.

"Look, can we please go back to my car and I'll explain it there?" I said in an attempt for sympathy or something. She looked angry. She looked like she would have shot me if she had a gun right now. I felt so bad. All I wanted was for her to catch Zhaina and Zac. Then she would have hated Zac even more and gone to me for sure. Shit, why can't things always go as planned?

"Just get away from me, please. I don't want to see you, Zac, or anyone else right now. I just want to be alone."

I wasn't in a position to argue. I knew Laidie. I knew she wasn't going to calm down by me talking to her, and I knew she wasn't going to fall madly in love with me there in the street, so I decided to stop trying and call her later or something.

"All right, if that's how you want it, fine. I'll leave you alone." I said, and began running back to my car. My fingers were like ice and I swear my ears were about to break off.

------ I laid in my bed for a while, throwing up my old soccer ball, thinking of ways to talk to Laidie without her hanging up on me. I must have rehearsed what I wanted to say a million times.

Going over my 'lines' one more time, I picked up the phone and dialed Laidie's number. She answered and I froze. I didn't know what to say.

"Uhh, Laidie... Hi..." I stuttered. Shit, this was going well.

"I told you I didn't want to talk to you." She said in a monotone kind of voice.

"No, listen. I have something to say." I began. "I have to be honest with you, Laidie. Look, I didn't mean for that to happen. I planned it a different way, that wasn't supposed to happen like that...."

"You fucking planned what? You knew Zac was going to bitch at me. You knew it! You did that on purpose to make you seem like the good guy here!" She interrupted. Shit, she was going to mess me up!

"If you don't mind, I rehearsed this as a single. Let me finish." I halfheartedly laughed. "I went over to Zhay's earlier and I saw Zac and her making out on her bed. So I hurried back home to get you because I wanted you to catch them like I did. I didn't realize that..."

"You fucking bastard. Listen, I'm not going to sit here and believe your shit. If your telling the truth, than your a bastard. And if your lying, your a bastard. So if you don't mind, I'm gonna go now. Try your shit on someone who gives a fuck!" And with that, she hung up.

I didn't know what to do. I was so beyond upset right now. At myself, at Zac, and Laidie... I think the only innocent person in this whole situation was Zhaina. I highly doubt she knew any of what was going on. Oh well, she was about to, that's for sure.
