How to become...
What if:
  • I don't get a family to live with.
This is one thing that doesn't happen. You will get a place to stay when you leave. This is a guarantee. There are some students that are hard to get families for every year (there are SO many students coming every year), and I know people that went to stay with a temporary family before they could get their host family. But there were NO ONE that wasn't able to go because they didn't have anywhere to stay.

  • My family and I don't get along
But before you do that, talk to your family. Let them know how you feel, and listen to what they have to say. But if this doesn't work, what you would have to do is talk to your IEC or RC (the two contact persons you get when you are an exchange student).

  • I hate staying here, everything sucks!
If you feel that way soon after you've gone, it's most likely culture shock. There's always alot of changes when you leave to a totally different place. People have different point of views and things might be done different. This usually take a while to get used to, it feels like people don't understand you, and all you wanna do is go home.
If you feel this way, let someone know. It does not get better when you keep things to yourself.

  • I can't get any friends.
Many student's think that because you're from a different country, it'll be easy to make new friends. Some places it is, but many americans are used to having exchange students,  and some places it might be hard to just get friends from just sitting 'round and wait for people to take contact with you. you gotta work for it, don't be afraid to ask if you can join someone if they're doing something after school.
Another thing is, there's always easy to get friends from activities. Schools in the US usually have alot of activies after school. Join in, try something new!
You will have fun.
