To make public transportation less vulnerable to volatility of world oil prices, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (shown in photo above) launched the Government's natural gas vehicle (NGV) program for public transport.
During the ceremonies held last October 16, 2002, at the Department of Energy compound in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, President Arroyo announced the initiatives being worked out by these agencies to boost the widespread utilization of natural gas as an alternative fuel.
"It will be the policy of my administration to promote activities in the downstream industry particularly in the transport sector. We have diversified fuel requirements for the power generation mix where natural gas now accounts for 18 percent as of the third quarter this year. I want to pursue the same program for the transport sector by having alternative fuels, particularly compressed natural gas (CNG)," the President said. President's Speech>>>> |
