With the
success of the country's first Natural Gas Vehicle,
the Department of Energy and the Philippine National
Oil Company are committing to convert additional
diesel vehicles to run on compressed natural gas.
Former
Energy Secretary Vincente S. Perez, Jr. created a
Natural Gas Vehicle Program Office (NGVPO) to
spearhead various efforts in the development and
utilization of natural gas vehicles. The NGVPO took
the lead in the implementation of the conversion of
the DOE and PNOC-EDC shuttle services. The DOE's
shuttle bus and Nissan Patrol were converted to run
on dedicated natural gas. The PNOC-EDC shuttle bus,
on the other hand, was converted to dual-fuelling,
i.e. utilizing a mixture of natural gas and diesel.
Gas supply will come from PNOC-Exploration
Corporation's CNG refueling station in Echague,
Isabela.
Conversion
of PNOC-EDC's shuttle bus had been completed and was
inaugurated by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
during the National Energy Week 2001 celebration on
last December 3, 2001. Two other vehicles were also
converted. |
