The Thai Government has taken delivery of a natural gas powered Mercedes Benz E200 NGT, on loan from DaimlerChrysler to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra (left) for a one year trial period. The loan follows the announcement in July 2005 that DaimlerChrysler plans to commence manufacture of the E200 NGT in Thailand, the first plant outside of Germany to do so.

The E200 NGT has generated considerable interest in Asia, with DaimlerChrysler agents saying they were overwhelmed by the attention the vehicle got at the ANGVA 2005 Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (see photos). The vehicle is already in commercial operation by limousine operators in Malaysia.

DaimlerChrylser promotes the E200NGT as ‘the most powerful natural gas sedan on the market’ and says that natural gas powered vehicles are a key element of DaimlerChrysler's overall concept for reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions and for safeguarding a sustainable form of mobility.
