| I'm Torrence Riley and this is my website. It has been since January of 2003, and its first layout was launched in February. The first layout consisted of a picture of ewan surrounded by several link buttons, freebies at eccentricty-online, and in red giant letters above it was the word "ewymc." My memory has since failed me as to exactly what the tagline was after that (for example, I now have 'a ewan mcgregor calling') but I do know that it once carried a different tagline. The background was a picture of ewan repeated over and over again. The buttons led to a few pages, all different colors, and the beginnings of the gallery would be a page with a few full size pictures collaged on it. It was indeedly archaic, but as with all things you have to start somewhere. The actual name "ewymc", pronounced, u-eee-mick, was basically a combination of ewan and mcgregor. In that day I often called him "ewy" as a nickname, and while thinking of a site name during a shopping trip, I found that the "mc" from "mcgregor" went together and hence the name was formed. It had been an effort of mine to avoid using a generic ewan mcgregor website name. The birth of the website and my obsession with Ewan did not go hand in hand; my fanship began around September 13th of 2003. In the beginning I would copy dozens of pictures that I found on websites to a word document, and it quickly grew to more than 30 pages in length. Some of my friends encouraged me to begin a website, and around January I ventured to geocities to obtain an account. In those first few moments, I do honestly remember thinking that there was certainly no way I was ever going to do this as I sat there with the foreign pagebuilder program open. There has been 7 layouts, this being the seventh and what I think to be the best of the bunch obviously in its advancement compared to the others. The programs I used for this layout were Adobe Photoshop 7 for graphics and yes, pagebuilder. I know, still a beginner device, but I have manipulated it to make my website appear as unelementary as possible. I hope that I can learn how to make use of the website designing capabilities of photoshop and possibly purchase pagemaker or another similar product in the future. For now I make due. My interest in movies and viewing such award shows prompted me to hold a little award show of my own, called The Uppercrusts. I would pick who or what I thought to be the best actor/actress/film/director etc. I usually aim for it to premiere on the Saturday before Oscar night. Since the beginning of this concept I have held two shows, but there was not one this year. I made the descison that I had not seen enough of this year's nominated material to be able to make any sort of judgement so I decided to wait until next year. I currently have a Moulin Rouge website that has been in construction and then stalled countless times due to my schedule or work with ewymc. I still cannot give a launch date for it, but hopefully it will be up and running some day. In addition to that, I run a small photo gallery of pink floyd pictures. Now here's the part where one depreicates self by saying the amount of "no life" they have to run such a production. And yes, I'm not denying that I must have some spare time on my hands to get this up and going; that is obvious. The thing is, I do not look upon it in a negative light because I find this a very fullfilling activity and a device that I can learn much from. I enjoy running ewymc and want to make it the best it can be, and I think that driving ambition is what keeps many webmasters, webmasters. I hope to continue learning, for my site is only a small little diner in obscurity compared to the pillars that keep the ewan mcgregor fansite world up. I thank those big sites for providing inspiration for us that are tinier and for giving us chances to be recogonized. My enjoyment in this website and what it has become for me is payment enough and I do hope that nothing will ever stand in the way of that. Torrence Riley creator of ewymc |
