Ewing Township Shinai Club
What is Shinai:
Ewing Township Shinai Club an athletic club whose members use shinai or Bamboo Sword to train with and compete against each other. Safety is stressed constantly as all members are vigorously instructed to control their power i.e. not hit each other hard with the shinai. Members are only allowed to compete against each other when they have mastered the art of light touch with their shinai. This light touch technique is encouraged and rewarded in competition. Hard-uncontrolled touches are penalized during competition. Touches to the neck and head area are strictly forbidden, as are any kind of thrusting with the shinai! Light brushing touches are the only legal touches allowed during competition. Our members are taught to respect each other and to maintain discipline while training and competing. The members are encouraged to achieve goals in the form of ranking in the club, these goals provide a feeling of achievement and accomplishment. It is a goal of our club to provide an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie among the members. Our club is free form and therefore open to all styles and forms of swordplay as long as the light touch skill can be incorporated in the style or form. Our club provides a tremendous aerobic workout during training and matches. Hand eye coordination, increased dexterity, and confidence building are but a few of the benefits of our club. |
