Famine Relief in Samburu District -- Urgent!

As you may have heard, there is a very severe drought right now in East Africa. It has dramatically affected the communities of northern Kenya who already fight to survive in the harsh conditions.

The Samburu are pastoralists, which means they get their livelihood from their large herds of cattle and goats. When the rains don't come, the grass doesn't grow. When the grass doesn't grow, the animals can't find anything to eat. When animals can't get enough to eat, they get weak and eventually die. When the animals start dying, it begins to effect the people.

If you think I'm making all this stuff up, just check out what the BBC has said,or Voice of America, or the Washington Post, or for a Christian perspective, read what Mission Network News has reported.

The Vision

The fact remains that something should be done. My vision was to challenge 100 people to give $7 towards buying relief food by the end of March. The seven dollars would buy 5kgs of corn, 3kgs of beans, 1kg cooking oil, and 1kg salt for one family. It would also help pay for the transport of the items. All that food, 10kgs total (or 22lbs), will feed a family for one to two weeks.

In addition to relieving some of the physical suffering, you'll also be able to help us as we seek to share the love of Christ with the people there. Many people are wondering, if God loves them so much, how come He lets them suffer so much? Maybe we don't have all the sophiscated answers that others are looking for, but we can at least do something practical to let them know that God would love them enough through us to meet some of their most pressing needs. Please prayerfully consider being part of this and spread the word to others who can also be used by God to share His love to a hurting world.

You can be a part of this. By making a check out for $7 to Aletheia Global Missions, you can be sure that your donation will go towards feeding one family. Just indicate "Drought Relief" in the memo section and send the check to:
