1) Ask the student what type or genre they are reading:
- Fiction (realistic, historical, science)
- Non-Fiction
- Poetry
2) Ask expository questions:
- What did you enjoy learning about most? Why?
- Would you like to read more books about this topic?
- What pictures or illustrations did you find most interesting?
- What kind of research do you think the author had to do to write the book?
- What questions would you ask the author?
3) Ask questions about the characters:
- Who are the main characters in the story?
- Do you like or dislike them? Why
- Choose one character. Why is this character important in the story?
- Do any of the characters change? How?
- Do any of the characters do things that are good?�funny?�wrong?
4) Ask questions about the setting:
- Where does the story take place?
- Tell me what the place was like?
- Have you ever been to a place like this?
- When did the story take place?�a long time ago?�in the future?�now?
5) Ask questions about the point of view:
- Who is telling the story? How can you tell?
- Which point of view is used?
- Do you agree with the point of view? Why or why not?
8) Ask questions about the plot:
- Tell me the main things that happened in the story.
- Were you able to guess what was going to happen next?
- Can you think of another way your story might have happened?
- How do you think your story will end?
9) Ask questions about the theme:
- Why do you think the author wrote this book?
- Do you think there is a message in this story? What is it?
10) Ask questions about the style:
- What special works does the author use to help you hear or see the story?
- What pictures has the author left in your mind?
- What do you like/dislike about the way the author has written the story?
11) Ask questions about the mood:
- How did you feel while reading this book? Why did you feel this way?
- What was the funniest part?�the saddest part?
- What was the most exciting thing that happened?�the strangest thing?
- What do you remember most about the story?
