The Inside Scoop #10
01/06/03
The Inside Scoop is back Baby!! Why was it gone for such a long time? The reason is simple namely "no time". But now the Inside Scoop is back to give you an insight about what goes on, on and behind the scenes. Here it is.
As you found out by now the Insurgence show for June 1st has been cancelled and the show is gonna be postponed to next week. Again the reason for that is quite simple. It didn't have to do with a technical problem, this time it was because 90% of the roster was stuck because of a snow storm.
SNOW STORM?!?! Do you actually believe that most part of the roster was stuck because of a snow storm? Of course thats not the real reason for it. The actual reason is that they were stuck in traffic.....Ok, thats also not the case either. Fact is that the show got cancelled for numerous reasons. The card will stay the way it is and next week we try again. Hopefully there aren't snow storms or bad traffic then.
While the first two rounds of the Universal Title Tournament didn't go as expected and didn't pull up the ratings. Last weeks Survivor II PPV with the semi-finals and the final of the tournament was a huge succes. We had a sold out arena and tons of people tuned in on tv to watch the PPV. Therefore the tournament still was a succes and worth all the effort.
Internet critics had positive remarks about the outcome of the Universal Title Tournament. They say it is a good thing that Nick Dangerous is the new champion and gets the chance to elevate himself even more. The critics saw it as passing the torch from the older generation to the new generation. Unlike other wrestling federations it seems like the EWCL looks to the future instead of the past.
The writing staff has difficulties in the tagteam division. At this moment there is only one real team and thats the current champions The New Breed. There aren't any other tagteams around at the moment, so there is no real challenge for the champions. Thats why at last weeks PPV we had The Dudes challenge the Breed. One reason for that is to try to keep the focus on the tagteam division and the champs and an other reason is to get The Dudes in the picture a bit as a comedy act in the EWCL.
You all probably heard the unfortunate news that Drake Laps annouced his retirement from professional wrestling a couple of days ago. Main reason for that is his eye injury. At first he was determined to get back in the ring and he even had two matches. But it showed that he just couldn't wrestle with only one eye. Drake Laps is now going to spent more time with his wife Kelly and his son Drake Jr. Besides that Drake wants to try to stay in touch with the EWCL in some way.
Lately we have seen it happen again that EWCL wrestlers jumped ship to the IWF. However this didn't really come as a surprise to the staff since it were two former IWF wrestlers that did this. A spokesman of the EWCL said the following: " If they feel they have to go back to the federation they came from, then so be it. We are not gonna mourn about it and we wish Chazz Mendel and Marco lots of luck and succes in the IWF".
The EWCL has recently launched a new layout for their website. As of now its only the main page that has been changed, but it already looks totally different and way better. Sofar we only heard positive reactions about the new layout.
The roster has been decreasing the last couple of weeks. Besides that there haven't been any new signees as of late. However there is no need to worry, expect some new signees soon. We already saw the return of Joey Gold, but also expect some other former EWCL wrestlers to return in the near future.
It has been stated on the forums already, but right here I want to let everyone know that the EWCL will have another break like they had in the year 2001. From the middle of July till the beginning of August the EWCL will be on hiatus, thus taking a break from it all. Staff and wrestlers get a couple of weeks off to be with their families, work in the indy circuit or compete in the IWF Interfed Tournament. Specific dates for the break will be announced soon.
Talking about the IWF Interfed Tournament. Our president thinks the tournament is a good idea. However experience has learned us that alot can go wrong with tournaments like this. We all know what happened with the two SEI tournaments. But on the other hand I have alot of faith in John Lugo that he can pull it off. On another note, our president also said that he is not gonna volunteer to work as a judge in the tournament. He stated that and I quote: "It's probably not a good thing to do, since alot of EWCL and former EWCL wrestlers will compete in it. It's better to stay out of it and look at the tournament as an outsider. I do wish the EWCL wrestlers alot of luck and will support them the best I can".
Since Exile used the song "Stuck in the middle with you" by Stealers Wheel in a promo that he did with Cazzo, the song has been downloaded for a record of times on Kazaa. Also the movie "Reservoir Dogs" has been rented more often than usual. If Exile gets a reward for promoting both the song and the movie is not clear.
Some news from a former EWCL star. The latest news we have from "The Rage" Rick O'Connor is that he is currently living and working in Japan. Things are going well from him there and he is trying to cope with the culture change.
That's it for this Inside Scoop. Hopefully it won't take as long till the next one.
