blackfin tuna

Many are caught hi-speed trolling, but some are also caught while freelining live bait.  The Florida panhandle season runs from June-Oct.  Table quality is excellent.

cobia

The spring run begins in late March and runs through April.  Caught using jigs, plugs or live bait.  Table quality is great.

jack crevalle

Super gamefish caught using live or artifical baits, but table quality is poor at best.  Catch and release.

barracuda

Ferocious fighter and predator.  Caught using tube lures or large live bait.  Catch and release. 

Florida pompano

Catch these excellent eating fish in the surf.  Use either small brightly colored jigs or sand fleas. 

gag grouper

Tough fighting reef fish caught using large live bait.  One of the best tasting fish that swims. 

mangrove snapper

Reef fish caught while bottom fishing.  Live cigar minnows or shrimp are great baits.  Excellent eating.

greater amberjack

Hard fighting.  Caught at midlevel depths using a large hardtail or pinfish.   Very good when grilled.

gulf flounder

Caught in the bays and inshore gulf waters using small jigs and live bait.  Fall migration to gulf begins in late Oct. and runs through Dec.  Excellent eating.

king mackeral

Annual migration into panhandle waters starts in late April andruns through early Nov.  Caught trolling dusters and freelining live cigar minnows and herring.

lane snapper

Incidental catch caught while bottom fishing for red snapper.  Super on the table.

red snapper

Reef fish which is highly prized for eating.  Live bait is best, but squid and frozen cigar minnows are also good baits. 

sailfish

Catch hi-speed trolling or freelining live herring or cigar minnows.  Catch and release. 

spanish mackeral

Pelagic fish.  Season runs March-Nov.  Catch by trolled spoons or freelining.  Table quality is fair.

tripletail

Catch around buoys and flotsam.  Live bait is best.  Great eating.

wahoo

Catch by hi-speed trolling during the summer months offshore.  Excellent table fare.
