The Game and the Bet
Aidan never left Herbert's side for fear he'd get lost in the crowd. He didn't think his American accent would be very appreciated by these people. Corinne had mentioned that faking a Scottish accent would keep his balls in tact -- and he would prefer keeping them that way -- but he didn't think he would be able to fake it well enough. Herbert would be much better protection. Herbert turned to him as soon as they reached the rickety wooden bleachers. "Do you want to watch the match sitting or standing?" he shouted over the din of the crowd.
"Uh..." Aidan thought about sitting, but scanned the crowd just in case Corinne had already arrived. He needed to make his bet before the game started. There seemed to be hundreds of people coming to watch this game, to watch their own team lose for the millionth time in a row. He spotted someone up by the small fence that surrounded the field.
She stood leaning over the fence in anticipation of the game's start. Standing behind her with his arms on her tiny waist was a tall man in a black leather vest, dark blue jeans over thuggish black work boots, and a bandanna wrapped around his head showing off his blond ponytail. The man was covered in tattoos of skulls, snakes, and swords. His face was covered by a burly mustache and beard that seemed to add to his biker persona perfectly. Aidan could only assume that this was Corinne's oafish boyfriend, Alex.
"Let's stand," he shouted over his shoulder to Herbert who looked awfully disappointed. Aidan quickly made his way through the crowd towards the punk pair, Herbert following right behind. They reached the fence to find Corinne leaning dangerously over -- held up only by Alex's hands on her waist -- screaming vulgarities at the opposing team players. "Morning!" Aidan shouted as he reached her side.
She didn't even flinch. Alex's attention, however, shifted from admiring the view of Corinne's figure to glaring at Aidan for addressing them. Herbert seemed to shrink away at the sight of it. "Oy!" shouted Alex at Aidan. "What you want with her?"
Aidan suddenly visualized a vicious wolf defending his territory and protecting his female from outsiders. Aidan practically swallowed his tongue. "I'd like to speak with her," he said, making his accent obvious.
"About what, exactly?" He pulled Corinne down from the fence, drawing attention to the pair of boys beside them. He took a threatening step forward and wrapped his large tattooed arm around her waist, hand on her groin showing his 'ownership.'
"About a bet."
"A bet? A bet on what?" asked Corinne, suddenly interested.
"The match. I'd like to make you a wager on this match."
"Right... I think you're daft, sheep." She turned back to the fence and began to climb back up.
"Well what if I bet the home team wins?" he asked, watching her pause. She turned back looking sly and whispered to Alex, making him smile. "I was hoping to make an interesting bet. Not just money at stake, right? But if money's what you want, how's 50 pounds?"
She slid out of Alex's claws and sauntered up to Aidan. "You want to bet fifty pounds that the home team wins? Alright, fifty pounds it is, then." She pulled a wad of money out from inside the front of her shirt. "No pockets," she teased.
"I see, so you keep all your money in your bra?" asked Aidan.
She stood face to face with him, dragged the pound notes down his front, said, "No bra either," and shoved the wad into his waistband. She winked, seeing that he was a bit excited and surprised by her actions. "Now don't go getting all hot and bothered, Hot Pants. We don't want another incident like before, do we?"
"Incident?" asked Herbert. "What happened before?"
"Nevermind that," Aidan snapped.
"Now, about making this bet interesting. How interesting were you thinking of?" she asked stepping back. Alex took her back into his arms greedily, his eyes like lasers piercing through Aidan in jealousy.
Aidan swallowed his paranoia and spoke. "Well I was thinking about something a little daring. If I win, you use your real accent in daily life and dress like a normal girl for a week."
"There is no such thing as normal," she spat.
"Alright, alright. You dress like a popular girl -- no, better yet, a cheerleader for a week."
"And if I win, you strip stark naked on school grounds and it has to be during school with other people around." She stared tauntingly at him. "Is it a bet?"
He stared at her. Was he that confident that he would win? And if so, would the team win? If the team lost, and his plan didn't work, would he have to really strip? She couldn't be that ruthless... Could she? "Aidan," whispered Herbert in his ear. "It's not worth it. Just let her be."
The music room. 'Hot Pants.' "It's a bet." Aidan turned back and passed Herbert who stood dumbfounded at Aidan's courage. He made his way back to the bleachers and found a seat, Herbert tagging behind in wonder.
"Are you bloody mad? You're going to lose 50 pounds and have to strip in school! What do you think you're doing?!" Herbert yelled.
"Relax, it's all under control," Aidan replied coolly. "Just enjoy the game."
Corinne had watched Aidan walk away and was very intrigued. "He's got balls," she said to Alex who agreed. "I wonder if he already knows that our team sucks." She turned and got back up into her position on the fence to watch.
The game was very short. The entire town that had gathered simply just to gather had suddenly found a reason to actually watch. As soon as the game started, people noticed that something was a bit off. The opposing team seemed distracted by an invisible thing. The home team was getting past each man without breaking a sweat. One goal for the home team. Two goals. Three, four, five. The crowd roared in a horrendous triumphant cheer. Herbert sat in awe. Corinne had frozen on the fence. Alex simply stared at Corinne's backside. Aidan smiled to himself.
Suddenly, one of the opposing team members stopped in the center of the field, swayed back and forth, and finally doubled over vomiting onto the field. The action was soon replicated by almost every other one of his teammates on and off the field. The entire home team halted, afraid to move any further in fear of stepping in it all. Corinne began shouting obscenities out at no one in particular. She jumped off the fence and Alex snapped out of his trance. "Where're we goin'?" he asked.
"We're getting the hell out of here. The bastard rigged the game!"
"But wait, I thought at half time we could..." he insinuated.
"I'm not in the mood!!"
Back in the bleachers, Herbert stared at Aidan in amazement. "I think I just won my bet," Aidan said.
"But... how did you...?"
"Oh, it was nothing. I can't give away all my tricks -- it would take all the fun out of it." Aidan stood and watched Corinne storm off. He laughed to himself. "She'll look good in a short skirt."
