| "Ugh, Women!" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Aidan decided to let Corinne dangle a little for the next couple of days. He thought it was funny to see that every time they got near each other, Corinne's eyes would dart every which way before she skittered away. She was still edgy about thinking they were related. He wondered how soon he would tell her or if he just had too much fun watching her avoid him at all costs. Herbert, on the other hand, was getting a little more suspicious of the things around him. Watching Corinne bend a tree without touching it could certainly change anyone's beliefs. Aidan was believing more of his crazy talk every minute. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Herbert was also getting a little curious about Aidan and Corinne. He'd asked, "So what happened when you two were alone?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Nothing I'm going to tell you about." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Yeah, right. You're just itching to tell me in every detail. I know for a fact that you didn't do much of anything that would be discreet. Especially since Corinne has been avoiding you like mad." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Alright, if you must know. I went over and she started kissing me right off the bat. I told her that I wanted to talk a while to get to know her better--" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "You passed up sex to talk?? And she was bloody willing to screw your brains out? I don't understand you!" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "I happen to like getting to know people -- especially ones like her. I wanna know what I can and can't do around her and what she likes. I also wanna stay away from the things that might make her bend me like she did that tree," Aidan said, laughing. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Oh, I get it now. But... if you did get to talking, why didn't you sleep with her after?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "It would have been way too awkward at that point. We both would have been disgusted to even touch each other." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Why?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "We found out that we both have the same 'birthmark' or tattoo or something." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "I'm not following." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Aidan re-enacted the scene for him, describing how they both had felt that it was the best thing to not become too affectionate until they knew for sure. "Wouldn't you do the same?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Oh my god! That would have been totally brutal!" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "That's why she's avoiding me." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "But why aren't you as upset as you should be?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "I already found out that we can't be related -- at least, not that closely. My parents told me." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "And you're sure they wouldn't lie to protect you?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Positive. I asked them truthfully and they didn't seem phased at all. So, I'm just gonna let her squirm a little more until I feel the time is right." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "And when do you think that'll be?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "The next time I feel like kissing her." Aidan grinned at the thought. Her kisses were intoxicating. He'd been quite a stud back at his old school, but no girl had a kiss like hers. "I think that might be even sooner than either of us think. I'm beginning to crave it now." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "How can you crave a kiss?" Herbert asked. Aidan shrugged. "Listen, speaking of tattoos, I noticed the one on your hand. What's it for?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Oh, I got it when I became captain of the soccer team. It's supposed to be a fancy letter D, but I never saw it. Every captain gets it -- yet the other captains I've seen got ones that actually looked like a real D. Wonder why mine's different." Aidan rubbed the mark affectionately. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Perhaps the tattoo guy was drunk or summat." Aidan shrugged. "Well, maybe you should tell Corinne today about your relations. The last time I saw her near you, she practically jumped out of her skin!" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Sure. I'll pull her to the side the next time I see her. She'd still be in drama now, right?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Aidan went searching through the art building just before classes changed. Looking through each door window, he could see people dressed in things from corduroy pants in all colors to shirts that looked like potato sacks. And their hair was even more interesting. Finally, he found a small room with a platform in the center of it and could see Corinne standing on it proudly reciting lines from Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing.' She was playing the detestable -- but strangely admirable -- Beatrice. Aidan waited by the door, listening to her act through the door and thought of what he'd say to be sure that she wouldn't run at the sight of him. The bell rang and Corinne jumped off the platform, grabbed her bag, and charged the door. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Aidan opened it before she could reach it and she skidded to a halt. Her classmates cursed at her and pushed past to leave. Aidan smiled as she gaped. She seemed scared. "Hi, Cory," he said casually. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Uh... hi," she choked. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| As soon as everyone -- including the teacher -- had disappeared, Aidan said, "I've got something interesting to talk to you about... but we have to go somewhere private. Can you stand to be alone with someone you're attracted to that could be your brother?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| She glared at him. "Don't try anything," she spat and pushed past him. He followed her quick pace outside to a hidden corner behind the math and science building. She marched straight to the corner and sat down with a huff. "What do you want?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| He calmly sat next to her and looked around. "Is this where you come when people begin looking for you in the music rooms?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Cut the crap and say your business or leave." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Fine. We're not related. See you later," he said and stood up to leave. He could hear Corinne sputter. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Wait! Are you sure?" she asked, jumping to her feet. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Of course," he said, turning back. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "When did you know for sure?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "After I got back home that night," he said smugly. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Corinne's nostrils flared. "You didn't bother to tell me until today?! Today's bloody Wednesday!!" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "I know." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "You asshole!!" she cried, and playfully shoved him. She made a sound that was half angry and half relieved -- almost a grunt and laugh at the same time. "You wanted to toy with me, didn't you? Your way of getting back at me." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Yeah, in a way. Mostly, I just liked to see that look in your eyes before you scurried away in fear." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| She got close and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. "You're as much of a prick as I am." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "I'll definitely agree with that," Aidan laughed. He pulled her into a kiss and said, "Now all we have to figure out is how we both have the same mark." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "We can figure that out later," she whispered and kissed him again. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "You're right, we can. But right now, I think we'd better look like we care a little about this school, don't you?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "When did you start caring about your studies?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Since I realized that there were students -- as well as teachers -- staring at us from the window above us." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Shite!" cursed Corinne as she whipped her head around to look. He was right -- there was a bunch of underclassmen staring at them as a teacher fought her way to the window to see what the fuss was about. "I guess I'll see you later, then," she said, letting him go, grabbing her bag, and jogging off. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "I didn't know she'd be that self conscious," he muttered to himself. After all, he thought, Alex was practically screwing her at the soccer match!And Herb said they actually do screw during half time! What's up with her? He walked back to class in silence, but still happy that she knew. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
