A One On One Interview With Dino Delsante!
Monday, February 7th, 2000.
Dino Delsante - Thank you for having me and letting me speak my mind. But, I'm going to request that you call me by my actual name, Vito.
The Informer - Very well. Let's get started. What did you think of Zed's comments?
Dino Delsante - Where do I start? I think the best way to answer that question is to really get to the heart of what Zed's gripes are. He made mention of the fact that the EWA had made a change in direction backstage. Just to make things clearer, I do have some say in what happens in my career. Specifically, I request matches. More often than not, I get to wrestle those matches. Sometimes, I don't, but that's irrelevant. That is the extent of my "booking" duties. I'm lucky to be in a company that encourages my strong points, and it's due to those strong points, that I am one of the top talents in the EWA.
The Informer - With that in mind, what do you think of his specific comments about you? Zed called you a "no talent."
Dino Delsante - If I were someone else, I would say I was hurt. But, to be blunt, they really pissed me off. I've been in this business for close to four years. I have never EVER been below main event status. I've been a champion in all but two of the eight feds I've been in, and that is because they shut down as soon as they opened. Looking over my track record, I would hardly call myself a "no talent." However, when you do straight forward promos, no glitz, no glamour, no fancy HTML, people tend to think you have no talent. When you use eight letter words instead of four letter ones, people think you're boring. When you do interviews that are not placed at keggers or in a limo, people think you're unentertaining. And that is what I think Zed's problem with me is. I personally think that my promos are some of the best in the EWA. Guys like Zed, Cody Covington, and some others that I won't mention, disagree with that. I've asked around, I've talked to some of the boys, and I've talked to our President. Everyone that I've spoken to says that they enjoy my stuff. And when it comes down to it, guys like Zed, Covington, the Kress'...they'll quit, move on, and be successful any where they go. Eventually, they'll run into guys like me, bitch about them, and quit again, continuing that cycle. That's why I call myself "The Cornerstone." I'm here and I'm not going anywhere, so these guys will both have to deal with that, and learn to work with each other, or continue with their child-like hissy fits.
The Informer - Fair enough. Vito let me ask you this question. Do you think you're hard to work with?
Dino Delsante - Wow, that is a good question. Yeah, to a point. I'm a perfectionist. I work hard to be on top, and it's because I don't "fly second class," if you know what I mean. But if you talk to Justin Sane, Fallen Angel, the Hustler...top names in our federation, they'll tell you that I work with them. WITH them, not against them, or even for my own benefit. Am I hard to work with? Yes. But I'm worth working with.
The Informer - Your past with Deuce has been well documented. There was a time when you two had a personal war of the words, a situation that parallels what is happening now. Can you tell us about that and tell us how you two got to the point where you're allies?
Dino Delsante - It was before the DOA Pro closed. I was the North American Champion and had worked out an angle where Tracey was kidnapped by the kWo and Deuce. The ransom was a title shot for Tracey in Pittsburgh, PA. I had said to Nick that I would job the belt, but the issue was who I would job to. The popular consensus was to job to Deuce...it was one of the biggest rivalries, me and Deuce, the kWo and the MVP...it was a huge match. Words were being said back and forth and just as it reached its pinnacle, Nick closed down the DOA Pro. We all got the invitation to come to the EWA. I declined. I had other commitments to take care of outside of wrestling, and I wanted to give them my full attention. But Deuce and I didn't stop. We just kept slinging arrows at each other. After a while, I just started to ignore him and move on. Then I got bored. I had the itch again. I applied to the EWA under a different identity, was accepted and then waited for the reopening. When the EWA reopened, I looked at the roster. There was Deuce's name. I knew that I had to work with him eventually, and had someone slip that it was Dino under the Sir Psycho Sexy mask. We started talking and soon after, we started discussing tagging up together. I also had a similar discussion with Nick. Nick's new website was the last straw for my forced retirement. Nick brought me back, and I discussed tagging with him as well. Soon, the three of us started talking about being a stable...and that's how the 3D was born. I hope that proves that in this business, anything is possible if you are willing to work with people.
The Informer - So, Vito, what will you do now? Where does "The Cornerstone" go from here?
Dino Delsante - I don't want to go into full detail, but I hope that everyone keeps watching because the best is yet to come. And you can bet that "The Cornerstone" will be in the middle of it all.
The Informer - And what are your predictions for the EWA in the year 2000?
Dino Delsante - Bigger names. More talent. Huge events. I think that this is the year that the EWA becomes the number one federation in the world.
The Informer - Full Revolution 2 will be from your hometown of Pittsburgh. You've made mention that you know who you will meet and under what circumstances. Care to elaborate?
Dino Delsante - Watch Tuesday Night Heat.
The Informer - There's one more rumor I'd like to address. There has been some talk of you starting your own federation. True or false?
Dino Delsante - False. However, I will be looking to put a charity event together this June. More on that when there is more to talk about.
The Informer - I'm sure there are a million more questions I could ask you. But I think the issues have been addressed. Let's talk about opponents to close. Who would you like to face here in the EWA?
Dino Delsante - I have always made it a point in my career to go through the roster once before I start to think about the World Title, which is everyone's ultimate goal. I think that once you have that accomplished, no one can argue that you deserve to be the number one contender. There is more than one person on the EWA Roster that I haven't met in the ring, and I plan to meet up with them soon. Off the top of my head, the one guy I want a match with soon is The Hustler. Yeah, I met him in the ring during the TDS Tournament when I was Sir Psycho, but I think that the world wants to see the two of us mix it up.
The Informer - How do you imagine the two of you would meet? You've always been against Extreme matches.
Dino Delsante - But I'm also the creator of the Riot Match, and that is one of the most Extreme matches there are. But, when the match is signed, we'll figure it all out.
The Informer - Thank you, Dino, and we'll see you on Tuesday Night Heat. And thank you everyone for reading. I'm The Informer, and we'll see you here again next week.
