Cockatiel Charm

Cockatiels closest relatives are Cockatoos. Cockatiel comes from the Portugese word "little Cockatoo". The scientific name for Cockatiel is Nymphicus hollandicus, "nymph of New Holland". Australia was called New Holland in the eighteenth century. As for companionship, the Cockatiel is rated as one of the best animal companions. A companion Cockatiel that has developed a trusting relationship with his human, will interact and show signs of affection. Each Cockatiel has a personality of his/her own. You should love your Cockatiel and apprieciate his personality.

Molly is shy and quiet, she is a hand-fed (tame) tiel, but loves to get out of her cage and play.

Female cockatiels (the hens) are usually more affectionate. This affection in the females make them more of a companion than the bold males. Female and male tiels can be tamed.

My Cockatiels (as with most Cockatiels) love to be rubbed on the head, and if you do this often, eventually they will bow their head as an invitation.

Cockatiels love toys color and movement are important. They should have some of wood or rawhide, as a stimulating diversion. Rotating toys can help prevent boredom. Make sure toys are safe (non-toxic),and the proper size.
