Care of your Cockatiel

Cockatiels can live 20 to 30 years, with tender loving care, and a proper diet. Spend time with your Cockatiel, let him play on a birdie playpen and interact with the family, though, he may prefer just to be with you. Companionship is necessary for your Cockatiel, if you can not spend time with your bird...get him another Cockatiel for a friend of his own.
A proper diet is essential, seeds and healthy "human food" are a good combination. Cockatiels need vitiam A and D. Avocado, caffeine, and alcohol are bad news for your bird.
Cockatiels need clean cages and fresh water.
Different size perches are necessary for healthy feet.
Wing and nail clipping are important, but I leave the beak grooming to the professionals.
Keep feathers and skin clean with misting, or "a bath in a bowl".
To cover or not to cover the cage at night... I prefer not to cover the cage. Cockatiels like to see what's going on, and if startled in the night it is called 'Night Frights' (night frights are a noise, a cat, or "something" that frightens your bird). Your Cockatiel thrashes about in his cage and can possibly get injured.
Beware of illness, if you think your bird is sick, he probably is.
With the care of your Cockatiel you are the entertainment, sing, whistle, play music, and talk to him. We earn their trust with care and friendliness.
You are responsible for a living creature who deserves to be treated with respect and kindness...Your Cockatiel
