Experience in Pediatric ER at the University of Maryland Medical Center
Project:  Sonja shadowed physicians, nurses and other staff at the University
of Maryland Medical Center and was allowed to help with some of the
procedures such as stapling and stitching.
Goal:  To learn more about pediatrics, which is her chosen career field.
Benefits: Got to talk to residents about what happens after college.  There
were lots of new terms, got to learn about procedures, and was allowed to
actually do some, like splinting and stapling.
Pitfalls: There was no transportation to or from Baltimore, and the busses
don't normally run regularly the morning when she needed to be there, which
made it hard to get transportation.  Because she's working with children,
and there are restrictions upon restrictions upon restrictions, she wasn't
allowed to get much hands on experience or even take pictures of the kids
other than of their injuries.

Tactical Radio Design and Prodution at Thales
Project: Tim tested designs of radio adapters used by the military to work out any
quirks or problems and to ensure everything works in the field.
He also got to troubleshoot problems, like with the Whisper Mode and its
reception. . . If I recall correctly, there was much interference and it didn't fit into the
circuit board correctly. . .or somewhere.
Pitfalls: There was a grounding issue causing noise interference  which isn't an option
on covert missions where Whisper Mode would be a necessity. Figuring out the
problem was particularly difficult because reading the assembler code was particularly
difficult. . . $$$01$$ you try and read that!
Benefits: Learned good troubleshooting strategies to help in physics and engineering.

Elbow Deep in Amish Goo
Project: Translocate 28 year old human serum from 250 mL containers to
5 mL containers at John's Hopkins.
Benefits: The people were great and it was good to see immediate
results and impact of work, knowing he did something worthwhile.
Pitfalls: Really boring because it was in a back room and very tedious
transferring 250 mL's to 50 5 mL container for several hours straight.
