    "SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DRUG ADDICTION"

          Rep. Act No. 8423 [ Traditional and Alternative Medicine Act of 1997, Dec. 9, 1997] authored by Senator Flavier,et.al., recognizes and legalizes traditional healers [Sec. 4, (h), RA No. 8423] performing ,divine/spiritual healing, among others. This modality of healing discovers that majority of the addicts have incurable but correctible back misalignment. The linkage of this back misalignment to addiction in some misaligned people , althought revolutionary and unprecedented in the medical field is actually a good research topic of the newly instituted Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care [Secs. 5, 6(a), RA No. 8423] which might someday curb the spiraling cases of addiction in our midst.
          Actually, addicts can be people of all ages who are dependent on illegal and prohibited drugs or who are using addictive medical drugs prescribed by their physicians.
          The earlier an addiction is discovered the better the chance the addict of recovery.
          The general signs and and symptoms of addictions are the following:

          First, Behaving out of character when there is no obvious explanation.
          Second, moods swings, anxiety, depression, fear, bad temper, lethargy and tiredness.
          Third, unusual laziness and unreliability; poor performance at school or work;
          Fourth, neglecting food and appearance;
          Fifth, constant snipping, dry cough and skin peeling around the lips.
          Additionally, some specific symptoms of addiction include the following:
          Sixth, pinpoint-size eye pupils- a sign of heroin and morphine addicts;
          Seventh, unsteadiness, trembling of the limbs and confusion, sometimes resembling drunkenness, are indicators of tranquilizer dependence.
          Eight, red eyes,over-relaxed and drowsy are the signs of a cannabis user.
          Ninth, disoriented or giggly: telltale behavior of an LSD user and terror during a bad trip.
          Furthermore, some additional signs of addiction to look for, include the following
          Tenth, unusual smells or substance around the house, tubes of glue, tablets, capsules and powder, greenish-brown tobacco, homemade cigarette stubs and hypodermic needles;
          Eleventh, uncharacteristic dishonesty- stealing,perhaps to buy drugs;
          Twelfth, changes in the person's circle of friends, attitudes interest; and needle injection marks and/or bruises on the side of the elbow.

          Admittedly, drugs in the markets have some dangers. Since earliest times man has sought drugs -external substances that affect the composition or function of living organs- to relieve distress,discomfort and pain. However, drugs have hidden dangers arising from the following factual situations:

          (1) Doctors andpatients have increasingly come to believe that treatment requires prescription of one or more drugs. but this does have dangers. So result from poor medical practice, others from misunderstanding between doctors and pharmaceutical companies and some dangers arise from errors by the patient.
          (2) Some practitioners prescribe drugs too freely.
          (3) The side-effects of the medical drugs.
          The State in protecting the health and safety of its citizenry has taken steps to regulate and prohibit certain drugs because their corresponding effects/side effects endanger a lot of people, users or non-users.
    Praise the Lord for discovery of this specific back misalignment with linkage to addiction.
