The Girls

Notes: I want to thank Lu Baihu for making me get this fic done: he poked & prodded me into writing it, was major help with the dialogue (writing over a third of it), never mind betaing it…

The not-quite original character paired with Todd is the work of Lu Baihu to whom I owe thanks for letting me use him, also for poking him at me repeatedly when I was trying to pair-up Todd. Hey, I'm using him now; you can stop poking me. <g>

Lu Baihu - Okies! ^_^ *stops poking Crys*

The song quoted is "Dreaming of You" by Selena.

Warnings: Femslash, Light Lime.

Pairings: Rogue/Kitty, minor Evan/Pietro, minor OMC/Todd

Chapter Four:

The Limo pulls up to the side entrance of the hotel. The young men and women get out of the car, straightening their dresses and jackets, as they head into the building. A luxurious foyer spreads before them.

"Goddess, this is… Wow." Rogue murmurs in awe.

"Mmm … you, we didn't pay for all - all this, right?"

"Just the main ballroom, and its garden." He waves towards a broad set of double doors at the rear of the entry hall.

"Oh, well, like, oh my…" Kitty exclaims.

"This is, like…" Rogue sighs.

"I think you've spent to much time with Kitty, you're staring to sound like her." Jubilee teases.

"Ah…" Rogue starts embarrassed.

"Hey!" Kitty cries.

"Next thing we know Evan will be trying to talk at super speed" Bobby puts in.

"Hey!" Evan shouts.

"Orlikeubhorrbiletring - see, lookitme!" Kitty says in an attempt to imitate Pietro.

"You-think-you-can-talk-like-I-do-well-you can't.—The-great-Pietro-Maximoff-is-the-only-one-who-can-talk-like-this-and-I-"

Jean asks, "Can anyone else understand that?"

Evan simply answers, "Yes."

"Well-that's-like-so-incredible-but-I-don't-have-time-to-like-talk. Because-this-princess-and-her-prince-charming-have-a-ball-to-attend so-like-tata!" Kitty replies in a slightly slower, but eminently more understandable speed-talk. She waves and leans back into Rogue's arms.

"Have we walked into the Twilight Zone?" Bobby asks.

"Don't think so, but…" Jubilee replies.

"Onward ho!" Kitty says giggling as they head for the doors.

"The ball awaits, my lady love; let us leave these commoners, and sample its delights with thee at my side."

"Yes, sirree…" Kitty snuggles against Rogue.

"Twilight Zone." Scott declares.

Rogue ignores Scott, and asks Kitty, "And what would please M'lady first?"

"Nah, just in love and a bit on the odd side." Jean reassures Scott.

"Perhaps an announcement of our arrival and an introduction…" Kitty suggests

"As you wish, M'lady." They head into the ballroom, pausing just inside the doors. "This is just… wow… Ah…" Rogue mutters incoherently. The room is decorated in a subtle Valentines theme, despite the holiday being nearly a month before. The dance floor is half-lit creating romantic shadows and letting the glowing hearts and stars on the floor shine.

"Well, well … cer-certainly, like…" Kitty tries to answer.

Ken calls out, "Hey it's them."

Rogue flinches visibly; they both freeze in place. ~He doesn't mean it like that; he doesn't mean it like that; he…~

"The guests of honor." Ken continues, and then notices the looks on the girl's faces, "What's wrong?"

Rogue swallows hard before answering him, "That was just a little to close to what those cretins said before…"

"Shit, I'm sorry!" ~and here I thought this night was going to be better than the last party I went to, especially with her…~

"No, no harm done-" Kitty assures him.

"Still…" ~Can I ever hit the right tone with my daughter?~ "Well, Welcome to the hopefully first annual Bayville High Gay-Straight Alliance Spring Formal."

"Thanks." Rogue replies.

"Welcome, everyone, and I'm sure no one would, like, mind if we introduce ourselves as certain special guests…"

Rogue exclaims, "Kitty!"

~This I can handle~ "Of course not — it was your trial-by-fire that got this all started after all."

"Yeah - though for obvious reasons better a trial never faced…"

"Indeed — well, the buffet is over there, the photographer's out in the garden, and the DJ's got a request sheet going, up there. And may I say the two of you look wonderful."

Rogue blushes, "Thanks."

"Thanks!" Kitty turns to Rogue, "So, shall we…?" She waves a hand at the room at large.

"Photos first I think, princess; don't want to get all sweaty first, never mind what could happen with that punch…"

"Perhaps you're right…"

"Let's see how many people are waiting." Rogue takes Kitty's arm and head for the garden. They slip out into the garden, wandering briefly among the bushes and flowered trellises before the find the photographer.

"That's gorgeous…" Rogue whispers. The photographer has set up two background areas, one overlooking the river with the night sky in the background, and the other, an archway covered in flowers.

"Let's do both!" Kitty pauses, "Just, like, one of those 'lovely dovey' pics and a kiss?"

"We'll hafta be careful, don't want the photographer to see exactly how we kiss…"

"Oh … I mean, not too close, like, go with the flowers stuff and all - I mean, like, you look at the moon and think, 'wow, that's *so* romantic, the moonlight kiss and all,' right?"

"Yeah," Rogue smiles, "And maybe an almost kiss never quite touching…"

"Not that I need it any other way … as long as it's, like, you…" Kitty smiles back.

"Long as Ah've got my princess…" Rogue leans in for a kiss.

Kitty puts up a hand between them. "Not yet … I, like, wanna make it *special*…"

Rogue pulls back. "As you wish, M'lady."

They take several shots against the archway then shift to the night sky. After a few basic shots, Kitty says, "Let's try the kiss this time."

"That's fine, girls," the photographer says.

Kitty's voice drops, "Okay, Rogue, so like, I'm gonna like, try it and hope it works, but like, to help me out you're gonna hafta stay cool, it might be weird…" She begins to concentrate, starts to test it out by floating cells and unnoticeable particles around her hand, giving off a skin-like glow; then she surrounds the two of them with an aura of these glowing particles. Rogue leans over, slightly her lips headed for Kitty's, but never quite reaching them.

The photographer says, "Oh, that's perfect." She takes the shot, and then a second as the aura is fading out.

"Wow, Ah hope these came out…" Rogue murmurs, pulling back.

"Wait - anyone saw?" Kitty wonders, turning around quickly, hoping no one saw them. She sighs in relief as she sees no one seems to be alarmed or overly interested. "Yeah, nobody." She gives Rogue a quick hug.

Across the garden in plain sight of the photographer, Scott glares at the girls, He turns to Jean, and says, "I don't believe it, she's risking everything and for what? A pretty picture?"

"No one's noticing Scott," Jean tries to reassure him.

"Still, they couldn't have been sure."

"Let them have their special night, then tomorrow, you can test how much control Kitty has over that, might be useful for distracting an opponent."

"Long as you're sure no one's noticing."

"Not a soul."

Scott sighs and turns to head back inside.

Two boys stand off to the side waiting for their turn with the photographer. "Did you see those girls? Someone must really be on their side for the moonlight to do that just when they wanted it to."

"Wish we had luck like that."

"Yeh, me too; although aren't they the ones who got bashed?"

"Think so, guess I don't want their luck after all."

"Right you are; come-on it's our turn." The boys head over to the photographer.

Kitty and Rogue head away from the photographer. Kitty asks, "Mmm … y'liked it?"

Rogue answers breathlessly, "Yeah"

"You… you saw what I did?"

"That, that glow … Yeah, well, how? …" Rogue starts to ask, but then looks at the other people around them. "Ah'll ask later, just remind me."

"Yeah, like, tonight…" Kitty grins, "But for now, let's go inside…"

"Wow…" Kitty points across the room. "Who's that over there?"

"Not sure…But that dress is marvelous isn't it? Wanta go see who it is?"

"Sure! I'll be back!" Kitty heads over to the other girl. "Kara!"

"Hey, what's up? Where's your other half?"

"Oh, came to see you, I'll be back, soon, because like, well, how're you?"

"Pretty good; here alone, though."

"Why? What's up?"

"Jeremy turned out to be an ass, and Nat's got her own date, you must know Micha from track."

"Yeah, erm, so like, what happened…?"

"Oh, just a normal ass, nothing to do with this." She waves around the room. "He was cheating on me with some 8th grader, no less."

"Oh my…" Kitty gasps, bringing her hand to her mouth in shock.

"Eh, there are other fish in the sea. Might as well find out he's a cheat before we got serious."

"You're right… But you're, like, looking for someone? "

"Kinda, but not just to be with someone yah know, it hasta be right."

"I know, but like, erm … interested in like, well…" Kitty trails off.

"I'm mostly here to support Nat — and the rest of you not…"

"Oh, no, I didn't mean to say that you went around like that! I'm sorry, but like, well, yeah … I didn't come here for that either, like, I mean, but do you like…" Kitty waves at the couples on the dance floor. "Well, period?"

"Not really, might be willing to try with someone special, but…"

"Okay, it doesn't bother me, really! Erm, well…"

Rogue appears at Kitty's elbow. "Hey, luv; brought you a drink."

"Oh, cool, thanks!" Kitty reaches out and takes the drink. "Erm, well, I'd like you to meet Kara…"

"She's in my art class. It's nice to see you here." Rogue answers.

"Nice to see you as well. Um, Nat's waving me over I think she wants to talk to me…"

"Oh, sure! See ya next time!" Kitty replies.

"I'll see you around." Kara smiles.

Rogue answers, "Monday in class."

"Of course." Kara waves before heading off across the room.

They wave back; then Kitty turns to ask Rogue, "So, what do you wanna do now?"

"Would my princess care to visit the dance floor?"

"Indeed I would, good prince!" Kitty takes Rogue's arm, and starts walking towards the dance floor. "Coz like, the drinks, the music… Lordy, that's Mark and Tony getting down and—oh my!—well, yeah, they're up to something, but…" Kitty trails off blushing, then continues, "Indeed, fair prince, tis the dance of queens and princesses…"

"M'lady Fair, May I have the honor of this dance?" Rogue bows.

Kitty answers with a curtsy, "Yes indeed, good sire!" and then takes Rogues proffered arm.

They dance for a couple of songs; then the DJ announces "I've got a special Request — 'Dreaming Of You' from 'A Prince to her Princess'."

Rogue looks over at Kitty hoping she got it.

"Oh … oh my!" Kitty stares in surprise, "For me? Ooh…!"

Rogue pulls Kitty close. "For my special Princess."

'Cause I'm dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow, I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room, dreaming about you and me…

Kitty grins. "That's…" She kisses Rogue softly letting a soft glow surround them again.

"Love you," Rogue whispers.

"You too…" They dance, snuggling close, ignoring everything except each other and the music.

Now I'm dreaming with you tonight
Till tomorrow, and for all my life,
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room
Dreaming with you endlessly.

"Look at those two," Evan asked softly, looking across the room at Kitty and Rogue.

"It's like they've floated off into some fairy-tale," Pietro replied.

"I wish life could really be that perfect."

"Yeah, we know what they've been through to get here, though…"

"S'not like we haven't got our own problems though."

"Like working for different folks?"

"And just being who and what we are."

"Never mind my father…"

"Yeah." Evan pulls Pietro close. "Maybe we can find a little magic of our own tonight."

They drift back out on to the dimly lit, romantic, dance floor "Yeah…"

Todd leans against the side wall ~Why did I agree to come again? I mean yeah I'm Bi but being alone at a dance like this just sucks. Lance is off wooing Tabby, Freddy had the sense to stay home, and there's no way I'm going to interrupt Pietro 'n' Evan… Rogue's over there with her Kitty; they look so perfect tonight, so right together, not like me,~ He sighs and heads over to refill his glass of punch. ~Always alone, never quite fit anywhere, even the Brotherhood… At least they want me there…"

"Just one?" The lady behind the punch bowl asks.

"Yeh" Todd replies softly. ~Just me, alone~ He heads back for the side wall. ~An invisible, lonely wallflower~

"Hey, you wanna dance?" A slightly taller boy in red asks, coming up beside Todd.

Todd ducks shyly, ~He wants to dance with me? But I'm… and he's…~ He hears his own voice saying "Ok." ~Did I just say that?~ The boy reaches out and takes Todd's arm. ~Guess I did. Maybe something good will come of tonight after all~

Kurt let his tail wrap around Amanda's waist, counting on the dimness of the dance floor to conceal it.

"Wha- Oh! Kurt, you startled me."

"Do you mind?" He asks hesitantly.

"Not at all, just surprised me."

"All right then, Liebe, if you're sure you don't mind.

"Never."

"You're the Belle of the ball tonight."

"No way — have you looked at those two?"

"And who could hold a candle to you, Beloved?"

"Kitty and Rogue; they look so… In love I guess."

"Ja they do, but you, you are das Licht meines Lebens."

"The light…"

"The light of my life."

Amanda blushes "That's so sweet, Kurt."

"I vould not say it, if it vas not true."

Amanda leans forward and kisses Kurt, as they continue to dance.

Lance stood on the dance floor - Tabby on his arm, "Is that Todd over there?"

"How did he get a guy like that?"

"Not sure he's your type."

"Given that he's with Todd, I guess not."

"Besides, what's my girl doing, looking around like that?"

"Your Girl - Like I'm some piece of property that can't do anything you don't ant me to?"

"Tabby - I didn't mean…"

"Like I'm going to believe that? You men are all alike - You use women; then drop us, like stale bread."

"Tabby - I swear I-"

"Save the pretty words for someone who believes them. I'm outa here."

"Tabitha…" he murmurs as she storms out, then wanders out into the garden alone.

"Looks like Todd's evening's turning out as magical as ours," Rogue comments, looking across the dance floor.

"Yeah, though I, like, wonder who…?"

"I've seen him around, a sophomore I think."

"Yeah, but like - y'know like, I so cannot see him, in like, that… it - hey! He's trying to cash in on our royalty gimmick!"

"Todd as his Princess? The mind boggles."

"Or maybe consort…" Kitty nudges Rogue

"Much better." She smiles "Know Todd's been lonely…"

"Well, hope they turn out happy as long as they can…"

"As happy as we are?"

"Let's hope so…" Kitty leans on Rogue's shoulder, looking dreamily across the room; then she starts as she notices Lance and Tabby arguing.

"What?"

"Erm … look, like, if ya want … Lance and, well, like-"

Rogue turns, "Oh lordy, I wonder what brought that on?"

"Erm… well, like, I dunno… but like, guess they'll get back together, least I hope, I'll ask them later, oh well…"

"It's not like they're the most even tempered people on the planet — especially Tabby."

Kitty sighs, "I'm sure they'll be fine. Shall we?" She makes a sweeping gesture towards the dance floor.

"Sure." She takes Kitty's arm, and they head back to the dance floor.

"Did my princess enjoy tonight?" Rogue asks as they head across the front hall of the mansion heading for the stairs.

"Indeed g'd sire, that was quite a ball…" They wind in and out between other couples and groups chattering about the dance.

"A princess must surely enjoy her most special of nights."

"Then this was truly, quite one… Kitty pauses and hugs Rogue, and then turns keeping Rogue's arm around her. "And for now…?"

"We must of course complete the marriage rite."

"Oh my… how so?"

"We must withdraw to our bedchamber, and celebrate our union"

Kitty gasps playfully. "Tonight? But I was, what about the king and the queen? And the captain of the guards?"

"But I have claimed thy heart before witnesses; and thou hath claimed me."

"Oh yes! Well, if we shalln't be disturbing anyone…"

"Not from within our chambers."

"My word, prince, what're thy plans for me? Art thou planning to tie me up and gag me, then have thy way with thy fair princess?"

"Only if my princess wishes." Rogue replies tightening her arm around Kitty.

"Oh! Erm…" Kitty freezes in shock. "Ahhhh…" She stares at Rogue trailing off.

Rogue shifted to her prior looser hold, before reassuring Kitty, "It's okay, didn't think you really meant it — and Ah only meant Ah'd try it once… if you wanted…"

Kitty sighs in relief, "Yeah… not tonight, after all… I mean, but sir! And put thy princess' safety at risk?" She winks at Rogue.

"No, we cannot leave the princess unable to protect herself."

"Thank you for your understanding…" Kitty curtsies, and then takes Rogue's hand. "Then we shall simply have to be a prim and proper prince and princess, in our manners, even under the most strenuous of circumstances." She replies winking again.

"Ah, but the bedchamber is no place for propriety."

"Perhaps… but until then, let us…" Kitty trails off, and rests her head on Rogue's shoulders.

Rogue pulls away slightly and takes the last three stairs in a single step; then she leans down and swings Kitty up to join her. "Is my princess all right?"

"Indeed, m'good sir! Lead the way!" Kitty points to their door.

"Of course m'lady—the bedchamber awaits."

They walk the few remaining feet between them and the door; then Rogue swings Kitty up to carry her into the room. Rogue slowly steps forward allowing Kitty to phase them into the room. After moving over to the bed, Rogue sets Kitty down without letting go of her completely. Kitty leans in for a kiss, creating another aura—this time solely for the two of them.

Kitty finally pulls back from the kiss and leans back across the bed. "Mmm… Our first night, prince…" She reaches up to take Rogue's hand, getting her jacket sleeve instead.

"Is it me you love or my velvet?" Rogue asks teasingly. Then she reaches out and pulls Kitty's tiara off, placing it on the nightstand.

Kitty reaches up, pulling Rogue down on top of her. Then she begins sliding her hands down Rogue's side, and lifts her head for a kiss. Rogue leans into the kiss shifting her weight to her knees and runs a hand through her princess's hair. Kitty's arms slip around Rogue's back to pull her downward, tilting her head to give Rogue's caressing hand better access.

Rogue finally breaks the kiss, and takes a deep breath. "Love ya," she murmurs, and leans back enough to remove the jacket, before lying down against Kitty again. She cuddles close cupping Kitty's breast with a gloved hand.

Her eyes slowly widening, Kitty's hands move lower, as she reflexively spreads her legs, only to realize they are both still fully dressed. "Damn."

Rogue shifts over to the side, and pulls Kitty into a sitting position on her lap, spreading Kitty's skirt wide. She reaches back and lowers the zipper, gently pulling the satiny fabric up over Kitty's head. "Wonderful," Rogue murmurs, running a hand across Kitty's breasts.

"And you…" Kitty looks up at Rogue, and smiles; then she shifts to undo Rogue's zipper, stroking as she pulls the fabric down over Rogue's form. When the fabric has been pulled down as far as it will go sitting down, Rogue stands allowing the narrow skirted dress to drop to the floor. She takes a moment to hang both dresses from the footboard. Kitty pulls the nearly transparent sheet over herself as she lies back invitingly.

"Oh love…" Rogue whispers.

"Shall we, prince?"

"For you? Anything." Rogue kneels between Kitty's legs and leans forward to plant a kiss on her love's breast.

Kitty plants her own phased kiss onto Rogue's forehead, and soon the room is filled with the gentle sounds of the girls' love.

"That was wonderful, beloved." Rogue murmurs later.

"Yeah… drop that royalty stuff, right?" Kitty replies.

"Yah — just two girls and one magical night."

"Yeah… that's cool too, like… wow … our first real night…"

"Ah feel like Ah could do anything… This was just so special."

"Well you're not Supergirl… but like, yeah… me too…" Kitty pulls Rogue into her arms, hugging her from behind.

Rogue cuddles back against Kitty, and wonders, "What would happen if Ah laike touched her?"

"Probably knock her out, same as anyone, but us…" Kitty tightens her arms in another hug.

"S'not, like Ah need super powers when I've got you, luv," Rogue answers, turning in Kitty's arms, and hugging back.

"Yeah, I guess I'll be the one protecting you from danger, yes?" Kitty smiles contentedly.

"And I you" Rogue cuddles deeper into Kitty's arms.

"Perhaps…" Kitty inhales the soft scent of Rogues hair. "So, to sleep now? Or d'ya still wanna, like…?"

"Hold you forever, luv — getting sleepy though."

"Yeah…" Kitty yawns, "Me too, so like … erm, yeah…" They shift into a better position for sleep without ever quite letting go of each other.

Rogue releases a hand to pull the blankets over them, then snuggles Kitty close. "Night, m'luv," She murmurs sleepily.

"Night-night, Rogue… sweet dreams…"

~Of you — nothing else I'd ask for in the world, nothing but you~ Rogue sighs, drifting off.
