AHMEDABAD, Gujarat, India, Nov 13: Nasim Shahbano, 13, from Jamalpur dreams of flying a plane someday. She tries to sketch herself as a pilot. Unaware of the term ‘pilot’, she says she wants to earn a name for herself and her family.

However, she does not go to school. Sarfaraj Pathan, studying in seventh standard, wants to be a politician. He sketches himself with a microphone addressing a crowd with banners of abolishing alcohol and gambling. “No one will listen to me if I am not a politician,” says Pathan.

Nasim and Sarfaraj are not the only ones who put on canvas their dreams at a drawing competition organised on the eve of Children’s Day at St. Xavier’s Social Service Society. Fr.Victor Moses of SXSSS says, “We try to reach out to children who were affected by riots in recent times. We have organised many events such as drawing competitions, enacting a play for children in the riot-affected areas, so that they can ventilate their feelings.” Read More
