The top five ways not to celebrate your sixteenth birthday are: 1) drive your mother's boyfriend's car into the river; 2) accuse the team's quarterback of setting the school on fire; 3) tell the League of Liberty that super powers are so yesterday; 4) freak completely when your boyfriend tries for second base; and 5) explode your sadistic orthodontist's drill - on purpose. Blowing out candles is the least of Jesse's worries. This was a very good and entertaining coming-of-age comedy about a teenage superhero . . . well sort of. It combines regular high school problems - relationships, rude students etc - with super powers and the twist is that it's the female (Jessie) who has them as opposed to the male (Seth). However, he does know about the existence of superheroes and the League of Liberty and knows that his girlfriend is one. The book is worth at least one read.
