This movie spans three generations of a Jewish family as they struggle to survive anti-Semitism, war and corruption in Hungary. Each man deals with the prevailing regime in his own way. Ignatz's business thrives despite a corrupt regime; Adam's assimilation means nothing to the Nazis; and third-generation Ivan's friend Knorr is branded an agitator for promoting pure communism. Besides being boring, I had some problems distinguishing who was who. I finally turned the film off after an hour. There were no redeeming qualities in it whatsoever.
