This coming-of-age movie is set at the turn of century and chronicles the story of two beautiful teens who end up traveling alone from Bagdad to Damascus after their respective parents are killed by a the henchmen of the Jackal who wants the girl for himself. During their travels the youths learn about life, love and the joys of sex. This film is very similar to The Blue Lagoon, for it shares the same theme - two adolescents in nature going through puberty together. However, there's one big difference between the two movies: this one has a human threat - the Jackal. Despite its bad reputation, I thought that Paradise featured some pretty good acting, particularly by Phoebe Cates. The writing and directing were also pretty good and resulted in a quite entertaining film, albeit a bit cheesy. However, I really thought that the movie really would have been better if there were no chimpanzees in it. They seamed to show up for absolutely no reason and really do nothing in terms of the story. Finally, I would like to mention that there's more nudity in Paradise than in The Blue Lagoon. On a side note, the theme song is sung by Phoebe Cates.
