In other news, Classic Media is releasing the original Japanese Gojira on DVD with English subtitles. The DVD will hit shelves everywhere on September 5th, 2006. This disc will feature the brand new 35 mm print in the best quality possible. Not only that, but the DVD will be packed with extra features, including:
1) Audio Commentary
2) Original Theatrical Trailer
3) "Making of Godzilla Suit" Featurette
4) "Godzilla: Story Development" Featurette
5) 16 page booklet detailing the making of Gojira and the story of the film's importation to the U.S.
This disc is also being paired with the American version of the film, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS (1956). Special features for the American version include audio commentary and the original theatrical trailer. Classic Media is also planning on releasing the original Japanese versions of GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN (1955), MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA (1964), GHIDRAH, THE THREE HEADED MONSTER (1964), GODZILLA VS. MONSTER ZERO (1965), GODZILLA'S REVENGE (1969), and TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (1975) on their own individual DVDs. Classic Media promises these will have the finest quality possible, and be in their original theatrical ratios. All of these discs will be released individually, paired with their original Japanese versions and American versions. Classic Media is also making a box set containing all of these films with the exception of GOJIRA (1954) and GODZILLA, KING OF THE MONSTERS (1956).
Classic Media also bought rights to FRANKENSTIEN CONQUERS THE WORLD (1965) and WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS (1966), and announced that they have plans to release both on DVD sometime in 2007. Whether they will be like the Godzilla discs and contain both English and Japanese versions is still unknown.
