Return to News Archive
October 17th, 2006: Finally, an update that is not just news related! First off, I want to give a big thanks to G-Matt for his generousity in submitting his own review. It puts mine to shame in terms of grammar in detail...sniff sniff.....

But anyway, he isn't the only one with a review. My review for Sony's R1 Godzilla vs. Gigan DVD is also up. You can view both reviews and see how much better G-Matt's is in the reviews section. Not only that, but a biography for the Mothra prop used in GODZILLA: TOKYO S.O.S (2003) has been added. You can view it in the Kaiju Suits section. Also, I FINALLY, at long last, updated the news archive. All previous news is now viewable there.

Now, I would like to congradulate J.D. Lees and the rest of his crew who work on the Godzilla fanzine, G-Fan. They recently got their newest issue out: #77. Its another fantastic issue, providing a large amount of new information, fun extras, and interesting interviews and articles. This is by far one of their best issues ever. Good luck on the next issue, J.D.!

And time for the BIG news update.

First off, recently two comic book companies, Illusion Studios and Newbreed Comix, merged together to create a new series of kaiju comics. Their new company is Dragonfyre Studios. Because of the fact that the fad of comic books are slowly dying right now, Dragonfyre Studios is taking a stab at illustrated novels. But the print prices skyrocketed, so what has happened now is that they are placing the illustrated novels on CD-ROM, to save money. Among these CD-ROM novels are Irokus: Mirror Image, Wendigo: A Deadtime Story, Kaiju Source Book, and Kaiju Kidz.

Irokus: Mirror Image is the first appearence of Irokus, Dragonfyre Studios' flagship kaiju. The story revlolves heavily around the war in Iraq. Kaiju Source Book is a book containing statistics for many of Dragonfyre Studios' kaiju. Kaiju Kidz is a coloring book for kids. You can print out the pages so young fans can color many of the kaiju dreamed up by the company. Wendigo: A Deadtime Story is about a bedtime story, which is being told from a grandfather to his twin grandsons, but the story may not be just a made up fantasy. I recommend checking out all of the new studios' merchandise- its practically gurranteed to be entertaining and fun.

In other news, Kaiju Big Battel's Shpadoinkel Mania XVIII is only two days away! The big battel list has finally been revealed on www.kaiju.com. The ultimate battle between good and evil returns this Friday in Boston.

Its not over yet! This year is definately been one of the best for kaiju fans, and the kaiju news hasn't stopped yet! G-Fest 14 plans are starting to come out of secret. Next year's special guest will be Rhodes Reason, who starred as the damsel in distress in KING KONG ESCAPES (1967), as well as over two hundred other films and TV shows. The theme will be Godzilla vs. King Kong, and will be held once again at Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare in obviously Chicago. The convention will go on from July 6th - July 8th in 2007. We hope to see you there!

Also, a new Japanese action film, COOL DIMENSION (2006), directed by Yoshikazu Ishii (worked on special effects for numerous films, including GODZILLA: FINAL WARS (2005)). The film will be released on October 25th in both Japan, and amazingly, the US too. The US disc will carry English subtitles.

Controversy and debate strike the kaiju world yet again with the news that Tsuburaya has started a new court trial against Chaiyo for illegal use of their characters. (See article: Chaiyo: How To Steal an Ultraman) This new trial will take place in China. Lets wish Tsuburaya the best of luck in winning this long time battle once and for all.

While we wish Tsuburaya the best of luck in court, we wish Media Blasters good luck as well in releasing two new kaiju DVDs. Media Blasters has announced that two classic Toho Sci-Fi films, FRANKENSTEIN VS. BARAGON (1965) (AKA Frankenstein Conquers the World) and LATITUDE ZERO (1969) will be released on R1 DVD for the first time in their history under the Tokyo Shock label. If they are anything like their previous kaiju discs, then expect some great quality DVDs. Both discs are slated for release early next year. FRANKENSTEIN VS. BARAGON (1965) is scheduled for release on February 27, 2007 while LATITUDE ZERO (1969) is scheduled for release on March 27, 2007. When these discs are released, we will be all over it like kaiju geeks all over some new kaiju DVD. Expect detailed reviews on both discs shortly after their release.
