The Top Five Best Things of 2006
5) 2006 saw the release of many kaiju films, including three Godzilla mini movies and MIRRORMAN: REFLEX (2006), as well as a whole lot of new collectibles.
4) Many Japanese kaiju flicks saw themselves on American store shelves for the first time ever, including the original Japanese version of GOJIRA (1954).
3) Toei Productions celebrated its 35th anniversary with a whole new Kamen Rider TV series, as well as two feature-length movies. They also celebrated 30 years of Super Sentai!
2) Gamera celebrated his 40th Anniversary in style with a brand new movie and a new foe: Zedus.
1) Ultraman also celebrated his 40th Anniversary with a brand new TV series, ULTRAMAN MEBIUS (2006), a new movie, ULTRAMAN MEBIUS & ULTRAMAN BROTHERS (2006), as well as seeing the entire original series hit DVD in America, in a controversial fashion. Tsuburaya also began yet another legal rights case against Chaiyo, for one last time in China.
It�s been, unfortunately, a sad year for kaiju, but nevertheless, 2006 did have some great moments. We can only hope though that 2007 will be a better year. As stated in G-Fan�.
