To say Kagome was tired when she finally pulled her bike from the
well is an understatement. She found that her eyes were having trouble
staying open when she walked into the house. That and the fact that the
lights were off for the night weren't exactly doing wonders for her sight.
She tried to walk along the side of the wall that lead to her room. But
she was having trouble thinking of anything other then going to sleep.
To bad Kagome's mother's new vase was sitting beside the same wall
she was following...
CRASH!
Kagome's eyes snapped open. She looked around once to see if she had
awoken anyone and then dropped to her knee's to pick up the vase's shards.
Kagome was busily pulling glass pieces from the carpet when she heard the
first footsteps enter the hall. Kagome looked up to see her mother enter
the hall in front of her, clutching a robe tightly over her nightgown.
Kagome winced when she saw the look her mother gave the broken vase. She
smiled weakly when her mother's glance came to her.
"Sorry mother," Kagome muttered quietly.
"Kagome?" her mother looked both relieved and confused, "Why aren't
you still in the feudal era? I thought you were going to be there till
Sunday?" Kagome looked back at the floor and continued pulling the vase's
pieces from the floor.
"I just had some... problems with..." Kagome stopped as more
footsteps came to the hall, along with the familiar chanting of her
grandfather. Kagome and her mother both sighed when the old man came into
view, a scroll in each of his hands.
"Ji-chan, it's just me!" Kagome shouted over her grandfathers
chanting. He stopped and looked at her accusingly.
"Nonsense demon! My granddaughter is still beyond the well! You
couldn't possibly..."
"I just came home early, Ji-chan," Kagome interrupted, still not
looking up from the task of pulling glass from the carpet. She found this
strangely symbolic of her life. Searching for shards in a hidden world
while still dealing with her own. Though these shards were a lot less hard
to get.
"Why did you come home so early Kagome, you still have two days?"
Kagome looked up and put a tired smile on her face. Her mind was busily
working for an excuse.
"I just have some things I have to take care of before I can return
to Sengoku Jodia (sp?)," Kagome muttered through the smile. Her mother
returned the smile, then frowned.
"What can you take care of in the middle of the night?" Kagome
looked back at the floor and picked up some more shards. While trying to
appear busy, Kagome was thinking up another excuse.
"Well, I wanted to get everything back and still have some sleep
before I left. I didn't know about it earlier today or else I would have
come home then," Kagome mentally patted herself on the back. Nobody
seemed to think she was leaving out as much as she was. Kagome just
couldn't find it in herself to try and explain that what she had to get
done was to train herself so she could kick Inu Yasha'a ass for the things
that he had said. She felt bad about lying to them, but that thought was
ignored when she remembered that Inu Yasha was probably still unconscious
on the other side of the well.
"Mother, do you think you could write a note for me in the morning?
Something along the lines of me going to a relatives house somewhere far
away. Like maybe somewhere in the bahama's, I always wanted to go
there..." Kagome looked up at her family and saw her grandfather open his
mouth to speak. She raised her hand to stop him, "No, Ji-chan. No
sicknesses. I'm already a walking plague as it is!" Her grandfather fumed
and then turned back to his room. Kagome smiled wryly and then went back
to pulling the glass shards from the carpet. She picked up the last ones
and stood to face her mother. They both smiled at each other, then Kagome
frowned.
"Mother... where's Souta? I'm sure that crash would have waken him
up..." her mother raised her hand and waved off the subject.
"He went off to stay with his friend... umm... Hammy or something,
the boy from America," Kagome laughed suddenly and shook her head at her
mother.
"I think his name is Harry, mother," her mother and Kagome laughed
for a moment.
"Well, anyways, he went to stay at his friends house for a couple of
days so they could finish a project for school," Kagome nodded in
understanding and turned around to head for the kitchen.
"Kagome," Kagome looked over her shoulder at her mother, "I'm going
back to sleep. I suggest you do the same if you want to be able to wake up
in the morning." Kagome nodded warmly and headed off to the kitchen to
throw away the shards.
Walking into her room Kagome collapsed on the bed. But despite how
tired Kagome was, she did fall asleep as quickly as she thought she would.
Instead, thoughts of what she was going to have to find filled her mind.
Will this Genkai be willing to train a miko? Will it cost me anything?
Will I meet up with that Yuske and the demons again? How strong could she
train me to be? How am I going to find Genkai? What if I can't see that
forest thing that the guys were talking about? Since when was there a
demon world? How will I get to Genkai's, supposing I find out where she
is? And why the hell do I not feel horrible about Inu Yasha?
That was the last thought that went through her mind before Kagome
drifted off into a peaceful sleep. Still in the clothes she had worn in
the Sengoku Jodia era...
BRING... BRING
Kagome frowned and opened one eye. Light was flooding the room. Kagome
winced and shut her eyes, turning her head from the light.
BRING...BRING
Kagome pulled the pillow over her head and tried desperately to ignore the
annoying sound. She had been having such a nice dream too...
BRING... BRING
Kagome began to swing her arm at the infernal noise. She didn't want to
deal with this right now.
BRING... BR-THUD
Kagome smiled at her handy-work, and once again tried to return to the
dream she had been having. She remembered a carnival... and Shippo was
riding something... Miroku and Sango were...
"Kagome!" Kagome's mother's voice echoed through the house. Kagome
groaned into the bed and tried to ignore it, "It's time to get up! If you
don't hurry you'll be late to school! I got some breakfast and that note
you wanted me to write..." Kagome gave up and threw her pillow into the
wall beside her bed. She pulled herself up and went to take a shower.
Half an hour later Kagome was dragging her feet to her kitchen. She
grabbed some of the breakfast her mother made and the note she sat on the
counter. Kagome opened it up to read it and smiled wryly. Since when was
mom so good at making ditching notes? The note said:
Dear Mr. Sukinami (the princibles name, sorry if it's stupid ^-^),
Due to my daughters poor help, I shall be sending her to her uncle's house
in England. I have heard that they have treatments for several of my
daughters illnesses and I hope that by sending her there, she can be
treated. She may be gone for several months so I would appreciate it if
she could bring some work with her to earn some of the points she will need
to pass this grade.
-Kagome's mother, Yumi (I don't know her mother's real name, sorry)
Kagome stuffed the note in her pocket harshly and swung the door open, only
to be faced with... Hojo. Kagome stifled a groan and plastered a fake
smile on her face.
"Hi Hojo," Kagome said with a hint of mockery in the cheerful tone.
"Hello Kagome!" Hojo didn't hear it, "I just wanted to ask you how
your feet are?" Kagome smile faultered momentary. Ji-chan what have you
said now...
"My feet? Oh there... uh... there... um, better. I mean, better
then they were," Kagome couldn't help but mentally gape at how gullible
Hojo was. A serious expression came over his face.
"Is it out of the serious stages yet?" Hojo pressed on, "Cause I
could get you some medicated bandages for the fungus." FUNGUS??? I'm
going to kill Ji-chan...
"Fungus??? Oh... well... no, it's okay... really," Kagome said as
sincerely as she could, "I've got enough medication for the... *shudder*...
fungus." Kagome tried to continue smiling while mentally beating her Ji-
chan.
"Well, I think I should walk you to school," Hojo stated, completely
oblivious to the look of disgust that had crossed her face since he
mentioned fungus, "I mean, with all the back and feet problems, and then
that joint deterioration problem you got diagnosed with last week..." Joint
DETERIORATION??? Ji-chan your killing me!, " I just think it would be
safer if you always had someone with you."
"Yeah okay..." Hojo cut her off.
"Oh and before I forget, I brought you some herbal medication for
your ankle," Hojo said, a huge smile on his face.
"My ankle?" Kagome stated before she could stop herself.
"Yeah, you know, the infection..." Hojo smiled again.
"Oh, yeah... well, um... Thank you, I'm sure this will be... er...
helpful," Kagome smiled and put the gift behind her back. When it was out
of view she threw it roughly to the ground, then she stepped out of the
house.
