chapter 3

Addie

I followed Scott around the flat trying to pick up bits and pieces of his conversation with J. J, I hadn’t talked to him in over three years. But he still sounded friendly on the phone.

“Yeah, she’s doing good. Following me around like a sick dog, but other than that...” I hit Scott for that one. He hit me back. I then noticed the clock on the microwave.

“Ahhh!!!” I screamed. “I’m late for my meeting!” I frantically ran around the flat trying to gather my things. “Scott have you seen my shoes?”

“Try by the bed.” He then tossed at me my mobile.

“Thanks.” Rather quickly I found all my stuff. “Tell J bye for me.” I told Scott as I quickly kissed him on the cheek and ran out the door. Boy was I ever in trouble.

J

“So how has Addie been really? Today was the first time I’ve talked to her since the split.” I asked Scott.

“Ahh, she’s a good bird. We hang out a lot whenever I’m here. The two of us are coming next month for a movie premiere.” Scott told me. That’s all fine and dandy but what I really wanted to know is if she had a boyfriend or not. But of course I can’t tell Scott that. He might suspect something. And then he’d pass those suspicions on to someone else and our friends would start plotting.

“Oh a movie premiere. That’s great.” I think I said something along those lines. Grace then jumped on me. I guess I had said something about a movie premiere. She was always begging me to get us tickets to a movie premiere, but I never really wanted to go all that bad.

“Hey, know what. Addie would love it if you came. We could really surprise her.”

“Uh-huh, yeah.” but I really wasn’t concentration too much on that.

Lori

“And I absolutely died when J told me about the movie tickets...” I listened to Grace babble on about how excited she was to go to the movie premiere and how Addie was her favorite writer/director blah blah blah.

“Yeah, Addie’s really cool.” I responded. Dude, did this girl ever shut up? I had run into her while shopping for something to wear to he premiere and we are casual acquaintances cos of our boyfriends and stuff. But I had only mean to say hi, and then she suggested we shop together and I really couldn’t say no.

“I really have no idea what to wear. And I really want to impress Addie. You know someday I hope to be a moviestar.” Figures, Grace wants to be a moviestar. It was then I had a most brilliant idea.

“Hey, how about I help you out. I mean Addie and I are best friends.” I offered. Boy if she took me up on this it would be good. I sure hope J won’t mind too much.

Grace’s face lit up. “Are you serious? You would help me? Oh my goodness, this is too good to be true.” Oh yes, I smiled, this is way too good to be true.

Kelly

“No way...you’re kidding...sure I’d love to help. I’ve never liked that girl anyways...Yeah, I’ll call val to see if she wants to help. I’m sure she will though. Talk to you later, bye.” I hung up the phone with Lori and grinned. This was going to be so great.

I cannot even believe that Grace fell for it! “What are you smiling for? Sean asked me as he walked into the kitchen. I was in there cooking dinner. I’m not the best cook, but hey I try.

“Oh, nothing...”

“Come on tell me.” He pleaded with me. He can be so cute when he begs.

“sorry, nope.”

“I’ll do the dishes for a week if you tell me.” Interesting proposition. I liked that idea. No dishes for a week. Sean never liked Grace much either.

“Alright, but you have to promise not to tell J or anyone else whom this concerns.”

“K, I promise.” And I proceeded to tell him the plan.

Addie

“Hello, Scott, you here?” I called out as I entered his flat. Nobody answered. Hmm, we were supposed to meet to go get some ice cream or something.

I wandered around the flat looking for him when I found a note on the fridge saying something came up and he’d be back soon.

So I sat myself down in front of the telly with a bottle of soda and some chips. And I was just getting ready to turn it on when the phone rang. I debated whether to pick it up or not, but in the end I picked up, “Hello.”

“Hi, um is Scott there?” the girl on the other end asked. But there was something familiar about the voice.

“Val!” I knew I recognized the voice.

“Uh, yeah.”

“It’s me Addie!”

“No way! Hey what's up?” We chatted just like old times about nothing in particular, it was quite a lot of fun.

“Hey look, this phone call is costing me a fortune. So I better go. But can you have Scott call me when he gets back. I need to ask him a question.” Val finally said. Yeah, I imagine it would cost her a fortune, she’s a hairdresser.

“How about I pay for half of the call.” I offered. I think I make a little bit more than she’s does.

“Okay. Wait you can answer my question.”

“Shoot.”

“What food do you hate the most?” I pondered this for a moment.

“Anything seafood. Why do you ask?”

“No reason.”

“No reason? Okay now I know you guys are up to something. What is it?”

“Addie, I can’t tell you.”

“Val, come on I want to help.”

“Sorry, but you’ll like it. You’d be proud of us. And I really have to go. Bye.”

“Bye.” I hung up the phone. What could they be plotting.
