Untitled 2

J watched the girl in front of him look through her bag. She had been rummaging through it for quite a while. She let out an exasperated sigh. Then she tapped the man in front of her on the shoulder. "Excuse me sir, do you have a pen?" He quickly replied no. J knew what was coming next.

"Excuse me, I hate to bother you, but do you have a pen I could borrow?" She asked him. J smiled.

"Sure." He replied and handed her his pen.

"Thanks." She bit her lip then. "Um, I have another favor to ask you, would you mind if I used your back to write on? I'll be real quick, I promise." J couldn't help but laugh. So he turned around. He then felt her writing something on the slip of paper she held. Then she stopped. "Here's your pen back. Thanks again."

"It was no problem."

"I really thought I had one in here, goodness knows I have everything else under the sun in here." She pointed to her bag. "But apparently not. And I didn't want to get out of line, I've already been here for 30min. Oh well, what can we do?" J laughed again.

"I'm J." He held out his hand.

"Alex. Nice to meet you." Just then her mobile rang and she reached to answer it. "Alex Preston. Hi Lydia...excuse me? They canceled? Did they give you a reason why?...Of course, well know what, tell them they we're through. I want nothing to do with them again. I'm sorry but, that reason is not acceptable. Alright, I guess make some calls and if you can't find anyone call me back and I'll find someone."

J watched Alex as she talked on the phone. It was interesting to watch her. He could tell that she held some position of power. The way she carried herself led him to belive that she was no one to be trifled with. She finally got off the phone.

"Sorry, business associate. I just got canceled on for this huge party I'm throwing and UGH!" Just then a teller opened up. "Thanks for letting me borrow your pen J. I'll see you around." And with that she was gone.

But she was good looking?" Abs asked J. He had been relying his encounter with Alex to Abs later that night while they were at dinner.

"Yeah. But there was something else about her I liked. She had this confidence that surrounded her." But abs sat there and laughed.

"Just like you not to get her number."

"I know her name is Alex Preston." With the mention of the name Abs' eyes lit up.

"What did you say?"

"Her name is Alex Preston."

"Well J my friend, you might just be in luck. It so happens that this Alex Preston happened to call me right before you got here. Turns out she's holding this celebrity bowling tournament for kids with cancer. Well, her dj canceled on her and she called me to see if I would dj for it." J practically spit out the water he was drinking.

"So when is it? I want to come." He spit out like an excited little kid.

"Friday night. It looks like things may be looking up for you."

"No lydia, I said I wanted the blue one in the gift baskets." Alex talked on the phone as she exited the coffee shop with her hot cocoa. She wasn't paying attention as she bumped into the person entering and spilt her drink all over them. She looked up into a pair of gorgeous blue eyes. "Lydia I got to go." She quickly hung up and began apologizing profusely. "I am SO SO sorry. I wasn't even looking where I was going." She tried to wipe away some of her drink she'd spilt on this person. But then they started laughing. And what a great laugh they had Alex thought. It was then she noticed who she'd run into.

"No harm done. Maybe you should be a little more careful." Alex nodded her head. "Alex, wasn't it?"

"Yes. And you're J. Here, let's get you cleaned up a little bit better." Alex grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the counter where some napkins where. "Again, I am so sorry. Work has just been driving me crazy lately, and I woke up late this morning, which is why I'm getting hot chocolate here and I was trying to fix a few things that my assistant messed up and just wasn't paying attention when I walked into you."

J looked down at his shirt.  A huge brown spot was on it. But he didn't mind much, he had run into Alex again.  "Why don't I buy you another one?" He offered. Alex looked up at him in surprise.

"I ran into you. I should be buying you something. Like a new shirt, since this one appears ruined."

"Nah, I like buying gorgeous women hot chocolate." He said with a cheeky grin. Alex raised one eyebrow.

"I knew there was some reason I liked you. Normally I would take you up on the offer, but I really have to run. Cheers J." And again she was off. J watched her go. Again she had run off before he had the chance to get her number.

That Friday night abs walked over to J's to pick him up for the event he was djing. He rang the buzzer and waited for J to open the door. "What do you want?" j yelled as he opened the door with a small child wrapped around his leg. Abs couldn't control his laughter. "Thank goodness! Are you here to save me? Because frankly I can't take this anymore. How Scott can deal with this all the time is beyond me."

"Have you forgotten what tonight is?" Abs questioned J as he let himself into the house. J looked perplexed then it hit him.

"Agh! It's the night of the fundraiser. And I'm stuck babysitting." j then relayed his tale of how he ended up babysitting to Abs. His sister had called him last minute desperate for a babysitter and J just couldn't say no. Abs stuck around for a little while but then had to leave. He didn't want to face the wrath of a certain Alex Preston.

Alex walked around the bowling alley making last minute rounds. The celebrities and children would be showing up any minute. The bowling alley looked really quite nice. Blue and yellow streamers hung from the rafters, balloons were scattered throughout and good music was coming through the speakers.

It was then she noticed her first guests had arrived. "Bradley! Jo! So glad you could make it." Alex walked over to none other than Bradley and Jo from S Club 7.

"We wouldn't miss this for anything. The others should be here shortly. They ran into a few problems." They chatted for a few more moments before Alex had to run off again and greet more people.

Abs watched Alex from his booth. He could see why J liked her. Her smile could make anyone feel at ease. She moved through the room greeting everyone and atthe same time running the show. Her confidence and happiness radiated off her and spread to the others in the room.

Later in the night Alex came up to the dj booth with a little girl attached to her hip. She knocked on the glass to get Abs' attention. He op ened the door and stepped outside. "Abs, this is Charlotte. When she saw you over here she had to come and meet you."

Abs looked at the little girl, she couldn't have been more than six.  On top of her head her hair was just beginning to grow back. Abs reached out and touched her nose. "Hi Charlotte, how are you today?" Charlotte giggled and buried her face in Alex's shoulder.  "You're very pretty. Are you having fun?"

Charlotte looked up from Alex's shoulder and nodded wide-eyed. Abs and Charlotte talked for a few more moments before Charlotte's mum came and retrieved her.

"Cute kid." Abs commented as she walked away waving shyly to Abs.

"That she is. It's sad though. That this had to happen to her at such a young age." Abs nodded his head in agreement.

"So what's next for you? Any more big events you need help with?" Abs asked Alex.  She nodded.

"I'm actually going over to America for about two weeks next. I'm going to help with some charities over there. I'm really looking forward to it. Then I'll be back and have some big gala thing and my work continues. Is this your way of offering to help sometime?" Abs replied with an affirmative. IT had been a fun night and he liked the feeling of helping others. The two chatted for a few more minutes before Alex left to go say goodbye to the guests who were now leaving.

"So how was it?" J asked Abs as soon as he saw him the next day. "Did you talk to her?"

"Nice to see you too J," Abs responded as he let J into his flat. "It was fun. Yes I talked to her. She has a whole lot of events coming up. But first she's going to be in America for two weeks." J let out a frustrated sigh. "But i did do something good. I invited her to Ritch's cd release party when she gets back. And she agreed to come." J looked at Abs in disbelief. Things were looking up.
